Latest S.C. Poll Results Have Lindsey Graham & GOP In Full Panic May 27, 2020 (bipartisanreport.com)

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) may have miscalculated big time when he decided to throw his support all in for Trump. A new Daily Kos/ Civiqs poll reveals that in the traditionally very Republican state of South Carolina, Graham is tied with his presumptive Democratic general election challenger, Jaime Harrison. Both of the candidates garnered 42 percent of the support in the poll. At the same time, Graham’s overall favorability even within his own political party is strikingly low — he registered in the poll results as the least popular Republican politician in the state overall and among Republicans in particular.

"Wearing a face covering is not about politics - it's about helping other people," Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) said Tuesday in a plea over Twitter, echoing comments by North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum (R) last week. "This is one time when we truly are all in this together."

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., posted a photograph on Instagram of himself in a mask Tuesday night. Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich., who faces a tough reelection fight, has added "#wearyourmask" to his Twitter handle, after photographing himself earlier the month wearing a mask in an airport as part of an appeal for the public to "remain vigilant." Sen. John Cornyn (Tex.), a member of the Republican leadership who is running for reelection this year, shared a photo of himself in a mask Monday, asking others to adopt the practice.

Coming from a country, Nigeria, in the throes of tyranny itself, I believe I can identify all its lineaments in another country. The US has unravelled uncharacteristically under Trump. It has been a sustained plunge down the Orwellian hole for the US.

Really, Trump takes the semblance of the African strongman – lacking prodigiously in civility, decency, temperance, grit, but sufficiently endowed in crassitude and imperiousness.

Whatever he does not understand he bullies his way through it, prevaricating. Trump is set in his ignorance and will even force it down critical throats with an insufferable aspect. He also assumes he is god coursing through a Valhalla of mortals. This is not the form of a president – but a dictator.

On Tuesday, Trump threatened to shut down social media platforms after Twitter put a fact-check label on some of his tweets. ...

NASHVILLE SKYLINE: Waylon Jennings’ “America”

... he remembered a song he had been carrying around with him for years. It was “America,” by Sammy Johns.

“It wasn’t just flag waving,” Jennings wrote. “It was talking about the ideals we had fought for and the blunders committed in their name and the honor that lay behind our national character. I found the song again and listened to it with a decade’s distance. I changed the melody. … I even made a video to go with it, a forerunner of the way music would be watched as well as listened to from then on.” The video is a quiet statement of pride in America, and it’s very moving to this day to watch.

As far as I know, “America” was the closest thing to a political statement that Waylon Jennings ever made. And I don’t think any song he recorded meant more to him than did “America.”

It came out in 1984, the same year that Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA” also debuted. As a personal matter, I feel “America” is a far more eloquent statement. Rather than being a manifesto, “America” is a ballad to this land and her people. It acknowledges this country’s challenges and problems but it also celebrates those things that make America unique.
