Obviously it’s a thing. Local Tampa dealer told me to just run it until it dies, it’s under warranty. Not wanting to be somewhere that I would need a $1000 recovery bill, I just traded it in for a new one.
If it hasn’t gotten worse and it is clear something is wrong by the time the warranty is up, I will have to decide what I’m going to do. I still have 16k of warranty left. I will either sell it, or decide if a new motor is financially in the cards at some point and go from there…

Yes here it is

From what I can hear in the video, mine sounds like this! It has always had a light tick, but it was significantly louder this morning. I’ve started it on much colder mornings, so I know the temp wasn’t the cause. It was still ticking when I got to work and listened to it idle.

I just bought it in November. It was built in June of 2020, and has just over 59k miles. Right on the cusp of the powertrain warranty expiring.

It was already scheduled for the clutch recall/replacement next week, so now they’re going to check the engine as well.

I have a 2014 JK Rubicon that I bought new in Nov '13. It currently has 93k miles. I've changed the oil every 3k to 5k miles with Castrol dino 5w-20. At 75k, I switched to Castrol High Mileage semi-synthetic 5w-20. The engine runs as smooth as it did when I took delivery at the dealership. It has been a daily driver and a wheeler with about $20k in (parts) upgrades. It is fully armored and used off-road quite a bit for about 6 of the years. I haven't done any wheeling since before COVID. Now it's a beach Jeep since we moved to FL.

I've been thinking of selling it and buying a low mileage JT Rubicon. With all of the 3.6L engine tick issues over the years, you'd think NHTSB would have forced a recall my now. I'm gun-shy about buying a used JT. I need to do some research about the percentage of new 3.6L's have been self-destructing.

Who will be performing the LT swap of which you speak? Do you have it all planned or is this just the route you would like to take? Just curious.

Sweet.
I have an LT1 in my C7. It is far from stock now but even stock it would make an outstanding power plant for a JT. I look forward to your build thread.

Lifters, passenger side. There’s a video from trail recon, he interviews a jeep tech and the ticking sound was covered. Iirc he said it was lifters passenger side. Something about bearings in the lifters go bad.
Might be worth it to look it up.

Should be covered…but if non of the dealers you have access to will look at it until a check engine light comes on, then…not covered:)

Mine is at the dealer now. They told me today that they’re going to tear down the top end. I’m new to the 3.6, but did not think this sounded right:

Dropping mine off today, this will be the second time in for the Penstar Tick! This one sounds louder than the last one or maybe I just caught it sooner the first time. I wonder at what point they replace the entire top end or a new motor? Dealer said Jeep is covering the cost to repair!!

Dealer seems to make all the difference in many people’s experiences.

The dealer has the videos I sent them, and acknowledged that it sounds to them like rocker

They told me that they didn’t hear anything out of the ordinary and that this sounds normal. Does this sound normal?
