?... and here it goes ...
;) :) ;) I’m going to help add fuel to the fire.

yall should just get an auto. It’s a total life hack. Let it in “D” and forget about it.

leaves a foot free to tap to the music, a hand free to hold your honey’s. (Or to give me the bird for being not helpful in this thread)

On a serious note, I hope you all have a great thanksgiving week!!!

As far as I can tell in my limited testing, you MUST clutch to restart the engine in this scenario. Thus there shouldn't be any unexpected lurch forward. I WOULD however be wary of using this on a steep hill. Of course, if you are super concerned, you could also just keep your foot on the brake as you would with the truck in neutral. Then I guess the advantages here are it doesn't restart until you want it to and you are already in gear, so one less step to get moving again.
The basic rule when stopped is:
  • In traffic and in gear, clutch and brake depressed.
  • In traffic and not in gear, brake pedal only.
Admittedly, the brake is more optional depending on the terrain. The clutch, however, isn't. Don't release the pedal if you're stopped and in gear until you're actually ready to go.

ESS engaging or not is irrelevant. If you don't follow these rules, and the ESS restarts while you're in gear without the clutch pedal down, you're in for a real nasty surprise. Considering the ESS is all electrical sensor-based, it's definitely possible for it to flake out. I wouldn't risk it.

I added a little doodad that remembers the last press on the ESS button. I can engage it or not at my convenience. Leaving it off and I seldom think of it....

Indeed, but these modern trucks go a bit beyond the basics. These were pretty much the only options on every other vehicle I have owned. ESS changes that a bit. I see what you are saying and it is certainly something to watch out for, but I don't believe it will be an issue. The truck seems to know what condition it is during this, otherwise it wouldn't prompt and start as soon as the clutch pedal is fully depressed. Could the electronics wig out? Sure.

I also don't see why you're trying to prevent the engine from restarting if it needs to while stopped. I would think you would want it to start back up if the system determines it needs to. If it wants to turn the engine back on, there's a reason, why get in the way of that?

OP i agree with you ESS is a nice feature I like it. I agree being able to delay the engine restarting is nice. I don't need it to turn back on to "heat or cool cabin" or becuse "Wheels are turned to sharp angle". I feel like there are a lot of these unnecessary start events programed because of all the excessive complaints over these systems.

The basic rule when stopped is:
  • In traffic and in gear, clutch and brake depressed.
  • In traffic and not in gear, brake pedal only.

Driven lots of manuals never seen this rule before..... Is it on the shifter? Under the dash? Or did they engrave it on the transmission?

help add fuel to the fire.
I think a proper argument would be that the MT is aweful and the autotragic is superior in every single way.

Why are these things called "life hacks"?
Why is it that when someone says "here's a new way to moisturize your face at night" and puts it on fakebook or instacrap or worse - tiktok, it's a life hack?
It used to be a newspaper column called "Hints from Heloise" but now someone comes up with a way to do anything at all and it's a freakin' LIFE hack? Really?

That's where we are - someone does something and publishes it on the web and it's a hack, no, not an ordinary hack, it's a LIFE HACK! Anything, no matter how small, it brought as a huge discovery by calling it a life hack.

So to avoid spotting on your dishes stick a dishcloth in the door and close the dishwasher door. There, I just hacked your LIFE! Amazing, eh? (sorry, it doesn't work, but some on instacrap or tiktok seem to believe it does)

Sorry, folks - LOL, I laugh at "life hacks" and just had to do this after seeing how the world has gone so crazy over anything that gets posted as a "life hack" out there....... nothing to do with ESS or Jeeps, just how social mediocre has taken over the world and not in great ways.

Carry on bitchen' about ESS again, get the popcorn, beer, whatever and enjoy the hate.

I like using the term because it occasionally sets off crotchety old geezers who can't handle the fact that language is an ever evolving part of our lives. ;-)

Its called a Tazer and I love it. Stopped my Jeep from doing the whole start/stop thing. Stopped my traction control from being on. AND if I upgrade my tires to larger ones I can make the change using this too.

Ah, like fourth trimester and other things.

Simply amusing, that's all. What used to be a hint, a tip, a suggestion, is now not only a hack, but a life hack! Gasp! It must be a huge thing LOL

Just amusing, that's all.
So if she were still alive, Heloise would be publishing a newspaper column - "Life hacks by Heloise"
;-)

A lot of folks use words without understanding the actual meaning. Sure, language evolves. My niece says "Cray Cray" for crazy. Drives me crazy.

It's called the rule of common sense. If you didn't follow what I wrote, you'd be stalled out in the middle of a traffic lane. And if you're stopped in neutral, there's no reason to wear down the clutch bearing by keeping the pedal down. That's just how clutches work.
