I'm sure 4 of 5 inches is not going to suddenly make you go out and by a Ram 3500
Maybe if you're only got 4" and trying to compensate, you might go the 3500 route. :CWL::CWL::CWL:

FYI, fuel bumpgate has been debunked. Watch Sir Robert of Plywood's video @Rob_Quadratec

Skip the 3500 and do as most do and weld on a washtub at the end of the exhaust pipe. LOL I used to say it was a #10 coffee can, but there was a RAM (what else) in the parking lot that the can (must have been a washtub) was so big around it was almost dragging the street. Looked like he had just got it fabbed up and welded on. He had painted it RED and it was about the size of a 5 gal can!!!

I'd run the exhaust through the bed so you definitely have to notch the plywood.

LOL, I would run it into my bed into my BBQ pit, LOL...

True story: Couple of years ago 4 Jul weekend, I 10! Guy is going to family BBQ and he is bringing the BBQ Pit and cooking the Briskets. He is running late, so he loads BBQ Pit in back of the truck, loads it with charcoal, fires it up, puts the Briskets on and heads out. He has about 40 mi to go. Well, the 70 mph wind turns the charcoal into red hot burning sparking coals and they set the median and an RV park, houses, ranches on fire before he gets stopped. Does LOTS of damage.

The only thing the TexHP could charge him with was Reckless driving or something like that. But he got sued to hell and back. IIRC it was well over $1 million, a bunch of RV's got burned it.

Texas was in a drought at the time and flames spread like crazy...

Sounds kinda like this gender reveal tannerite cake explosion that end up doing $8.2M in damage, lol.

"We’ve known for a few months that the Sawmill Fire, which started in April 2017 outside Tuscon, Arizona, was started by a border patrol agent’s desire to blow something up and reveal the nature of his unborn child’s genitals. But thanks to a new video, obtained by the Arizona Daily Star through a Freedom of Information Act request, we can now see the moment it happened."

All I can say is that I had to scratch my head and wonder about it. That’s the best story that I can come up with so I’m gonna have to stick with it. Oh the shit I stirred up!!!!
I hear ya, just giving you a hard time, but your observation was sound. That bump is causing issues for some aftermarket stuff!

So, after all these threads and posts, has anybody actually hauled sheets of plywood in a JT yet?

Red did, and somebody else hauled like 12 sheets at once! Photos on the gladiator challenge thread.

720 POUNDS OF PLYWOOD :muscle::whew:!!!

I put the tailgate to the test today, and tried out some rough science to understand the weight distribution with the mid-tailgate. Here are my findings:
  • 12 sheets of 3/4" ply @ 60lbs each = 720lbs
  • I jacked the sheets up and lowered them on a scale just at the point where the sheets weren't touching the tailgate. There was 260lbs at the tailgate. There were previous posts eluding to the likely even weight distribution across all three load points, and I think this confirms that. In my scenario 36% of the weight was resting on the tailgate.
In summary, I was extremely nervous on the drive home, but all is good! The suspension and brakes felt great almost as if the bed was empty.

obviously the weight on the tailgate isnt 500lbs though, as it only has parts of the boards. Which makes me wonder how to calculate that weight (probably by percentage of volume of board covering the area past the tailgate cutoff and multiplying across the number of boards then factoring in additional force from them going up and down due to terrain
