Hypothetical question here. If you had a JTRD that you wanted to keep forever and, for fun let’s say you were in Canada. Would you prefer a 125k mile extended warranty at $4,500 or something else for about half the cost? I’m new to DEF diesels and trying to learn

I bought an extended warranty just because I was new to Jeeps and didn't know if they were reliable. I also have a JTRD and love it. Almost at 50k miles now and the only issues I've had were NOT engine related. (front end). Unfortunately, even if I used the warranty to fix said front end issues, the dealer would just replace the parts with the same crap stock parts.
I also have the mindset that once the standard warranty is up, I'm responsible for most repairs/upgrades. Now that the EPA has redefined how emissions are treated, I'll wait for the 100k mark to help my Glad lose some weight. Not that that matters seeing as how we are in Canada ;)

How stock are you planning to keep it? Because extended warranties often don't cover things when the vehicle has been modified beyond a point. They tend to look for reasons to deny coverage. Also, if you do buy an extended warranty I would only by a factory backed extended warranty.
But the reality of extended warranties is you are better off saving your money on average. Because the average person will spend more on the extended warranty then they will get out of it. That is how the companies selling them make money on them. And they sell them to make money. Could you be one of the people that comes out ahead on it? Sure. But the odds are you won't.

Extended warranties are rarely worth it. They are a huge profit margin for the companies because they will try to deny everything they can and often purchasers don’t understand the limits of the warranty. The amount of money that I have saved by not purchasing any extended warranty on any vehicle I have purchase would pay for quite a few repairs (that I have not needed). If you think you may need the extended warranty, it may be a good idea to purchase a more reliable vehicle.

I know there will be that guy who says he always buys the extended warranty and it saved him that one time. The reality is the warranty companies couldn’t stay in business if even a large number of their customers got value for the cost of the service. This means you are gambling with the money hoping that you lose it all.

Lastly, on vehicles like the Gladiator I have always subscribed to “build it back better.” So when something fails, I use a higher quality replacement or one that it more tailored to my use case. You can’t usually do that with a warranty. They will use the most economical replacement part and likely deny your claim if any of the surrounding systems have been altered from stock.

A little background here, since buying the 23 JTRD, I currently have 2 JT Rubicons, the 23 diesel and a 22 gasser. The 22 has a Clayton Overland 2.5 lift, Falcon reservoir shocks, RSE sliders, 9" wheels with 37" Baja Boss ATs, MC baller joints and braces on the sector shaft and track bar bracket. Also a few smaller things too that I'm forgetting.

The original plan was to take the 22 gasser back close to stock before selling it then reinstall the compatible parts on the 23. When I picked up the 23 diesel last weekend in Delware, the drive home to Oklahoma was just over 1,500 miles and I was honestly shocked how well it rides and drives stock. Because of that, I'm thinking about leaving the suspension alone for now and just moving up to 35s on new wheels along with keeping the RSE sliders. In this situation, it is pretty much still stock as far as my local Jeep place is concerned with regard to warranty work. The thing I really want to protect is the engine. I don't really think an extended warranty is the best way to go here, but this is the first diesel I've had in almost 20 years. My last was an 08 Ford 3/4 ton with 6.4 and it didn't use DEF. The problems I had out of it were all sensor related but it was close to 1,500 every time one went out. Looking back I should have deleted it but I didn't. I'd like to avoid similar problems this time so losing some weight is probably the way to go for longevity and it is cheaper.

Loosing weight will only do nothing for the truck but it is a significant health boost for sure.

I have never bought an extended warranty for anything honestly after i take so much time making a deal and avoiding overpaying on the vehicle i cant see giving them some of it back on the chance something may break later that i can just fix by paying for parts.

315's will fit with no lift on stock or a little wider wheel. Diesel will never know they are there. Actually picked up MPG on my JLURD with them. As far as weight loss, I voided my warranty around 7K miles and never looked back.
