Hey everyone, I'm new here. Have owned various jeeps over the years, now considering a gladiator diesel. I've owned diesel trucks before and am aware of the services requirements, def etc.
I work for a company where I am reimbursed for mileage at 60 cents per kilometer. A good chunk of my paycheck comes from mileage reimbursement so I need some decent fuel mileage. I'm often in more remote areas, deep snow, muddy back roads etc. I'm tired of getting stuck and want to drive something I would enjoy. The Gladiator diesel fits this role perfectly. My concern is longer term reliability. I have the option to buy the eco diesel with 105000kms on it. Price is good, always dealer serviced etc but its off warranty now. I would have a local shop do a delete and get rid of the emissions, def, and reprogram ecu etc. Anyone have an opinion on long term reliability with the right oil and proper maintenance? I put on approximately 6000kms a month and the vehicle would be running for long trips not just short runs. To run a gas Gladiator I would be losing around $6000 in wages per year. Thoughts on the eco diesel in this role?

The engine itself is pretty sold. The costliest part of owning a modern diesel is having to replace emissions components as they fail. But if you plan to delete those components, then the Gen 3 EcoDiesel should easily last 300,000 miles. We have two Gen 2 EcoDiesel owners on the Ram forum with over 500,000 miles. One of the guys will be turning 600,000 miles by the end of the year if things keep going well for him.

I just crossed 127,000 miles, about 205,000 kilometers, in roughly 56 months, which is about 4,450 kms per month for almost 5 years. Plently of long trips of 1,000+ miles, lots of rough trails and even some very hard wheeling now and again. Still all original powertrain. Still going strong. I recently got the sticky swirl valve code, but I consider that an expected mantainence cost. If you're deleting all that stuff, you're eliminating the cause of that so you should't see this issue.

As of today, with a 2-inch lift and 37s, without my rack and RTT, I get 24-25 mpg on the highway and 20-21 around town.

You can always buy a warranty if you have concerns. But from my personal experience and what I've read on the forums, it seems if the Diesel is going to fail, its usually relatively early in mileage.

Also, other than the HPFP recall(which hasn' t effected very many people anyway) , I'm not aware of any major parts or scenarios that are common in these engines to fail.

What are your specific concerns ? Seems nothing any different than you would have with anyother diesel /gasser when buying useded.

I'm running 37's, stock gearing and get great mileage, so based on that alone, I think it fits your criteria.
