Every time I turn on my wipers, my dash lights turn on bright. They stay bright for several minutes. I'm not 100% positive, but it seems like sometimes they stay on bright and never dim.

Same thing happens when I turn the wipers off.

Is this a feature or a bug?

I'm guessing when you turn the wipers on, the headlights, etc. also come on. Do you have the dash light brightness wheel cranked up?

I keep my lights set to Auto. When the wipers are turned on, the headlights are automatically turned on, and shut off when the wipers are turned off. The sensor in the dash will also turn on the headlights if the cab goes dark long enough, like under a bridge or a wide overpass. When the lights are on, the dash brightness is controlled by the scroll wheel. When the lights are off, the dash lights are full bright. There are two scroll wheels. One controls the accessory lighting in the cab, the other controls the brightness of the dash and turns on the interior light when turned all the way up.

Is it dark out when you turn the wipers on? I haven't had the Jeep long enough and it doesn't rain here much but I've had other vehicles that turn the outside headlights on with the wipers but won't dim the interior lights unless it's dark enough outside to trip the light sensor.

There is a setting in Uconnect that allows you to automatically turn on the headlights when the wipers are activated. Seems like you have this enabled. Take a look in Settings.

I think their auto system assumes that if you have the wipers on, it is getting less bright out so it auto turns them up. At least that is what I assumed was going on in my Jeep because the lights change back when you turn them off.

Some states such as Ohio where I live have passed laws stating if wipers have to come then headlights must be turned on.
I imagine there are several others that have also passed this type of law.
Jeep probably just put that function in to cover those laws but as stated make it possible to turn the auto function off if not required in your state.

Canada, along with almost the whole ROW, have DRL.
But yes, lights on with wipers.

Sounds like a set up thing. In all of the States I have seen, it's a "law for the headlights to be on if raining" so Jeep might be turning them on. To throw my gripe of the day...day time running lights if the flipping headlights are automatically on so should the tail lights to due to the larger number of dumb a$$es that can't figure out to turn on there F###### lights when raining or at night. Otherwise it's a good reason to get pulled over and to get a "I'm a dumbass" ticket, and a great reason to be checked for impaired driving!! FYI think about the last part. Otherwise call it driving while stupid.

It does sound like a defect.

Headlights on = it's dark out = dim instrument panel

Wipers on = headlights on

I guess it is possible than when the headlights come on as a result of the wiper coming on that there is some sort of ambient light sensor that is misreading the light in the cabin and forcing the instrument panel to increase in brightness.
