Ferris Bueller's day off? What would you do if you get a notification on your phone that your Gladiator was located at a restaurant one day and parked in an apartment complex the next day? I dropped it off at the dealer on Monday for corrosion warranty work.

The only proof I have is the airtag history. I suppose I can pull the camera SD card the next time I see the JT.

All I think about now it the abuse it may be going through, like in the movie Ferris Beuller's Day Off.

The Sheriff says it's a civil matter. He said if I see it out at night again that I could file a misc report just to document the event.

Note: The dealership contracts out their body work to a third party. The third party is the one going out on the joy ride.

If you order a pizza from your local Pizza Hut store and it arrives super late and cold, you complain to the store to get your money back.

I would be all over the service manager at that dealership. I take that sh#t personally that someone is a taking a joyride in my vehicle and burning my gas and my miles at my expense. No way.

I 100% agree with @DirkG but I would also have jumped in my wife's Jeep and tracked down my Gladiator... then called the dealership. But I'd be on the phone before coming here to ask for advance, they better have a damn good excuse and a nice gift card waiting to buy my silence.

Go to the dealership, drag by the hair the service manager to the shop they farmed it out to, make him set up a meeting with the manager of the shop and demand to see your ride, pull the SD card, present the tracking information to him and ask him if this information is accurate. If they admit it and someone went joyriding, file a complaint with the Better Business Organization against the dealership and the outsourced shop. Also file a complaint with Jeep against the dealership for mishandling your asset while in their possession. Now this next idea will be a bit over the top but…it’s your baby we’re talking about here. Demand the dealership completely inspect the JT to determine if physical damage was done on the joyriding. Have the dealership remove your JT from the contractor to their shop and repair it if anything was damaged and put it back together. Start over again with a different Jeep dealership. If they put up any fuss on this action, call a good lawyer.
Also, find a Jeep dealership that has their own paint shop in house.

Refrain from physical contact. All other activities are fine.

I don't have any physical proof yet. Only info from my Samsung airtag app. I didn't even look at it until this morning. I was hoping to see it at the dealership. I saw it still at the body shop and decided to look at the history.

Tonight is recon night with cameras. The Sheriff said that it a civil matter but they can file a misc report for documentation. Friday morning I will report the alleged incidents to the dealership with or without the physical proof.

The nearest Jeep body shop is 2 hours away. It will be my next step. I have a lawyer friend he is aware of the situation. I still need proof other that the airtag, the Sheriff agreed.

There is no telling what kind of drug deals took place out of my Jeep. 2300 on Monday an 2130 on Wednesday are strange times but that is just when another Samsung phone picked up the airtag.

Did they smoke in the car? Did they rob a store? No telling!
No, I'm pissed about it. I just need more evidence.

Say I report this and we find the individual that took my Jeep. He gets fired and then seeks revenge. Lots of thoughts come to mind.

@Lost1wing I'm not sure how the Samsung App works, but on my iPhone I have the option to turn on the Notify when I leave it behind with the exception of locations I set. You might try to do that and set the dealership as a location that it doesn't report when its there, but alerts you when you the vehicle leaves that location.

Samsung works the same way. The issue now is that when it sends a notification, it will chirp and whoever is in the Jeep will hear it. Turning notifications off, it will not chirp. I know the two locations it has been reported at, so I will just monitor the app as I check these locations. Once I find it departed from the body shop I can stakeout for photo's. Hopefully I will see the person responsible. If not, I will let the dealership know of the shenanigans.

@Lost1wing, you're a more patient man than me. I don't think the burden of proof is on you. It's on them. You were notified/pinged that your vehicle was at two separate locations outside of the approved 1) dealership and 2) body shop. Check the mileage of the vehicle. It would have been documented at the dealership upon receipt of the vehicle.

If there was a fraction of a chance that anything from drugs to smoking in my car happened, I'm metaphorically ripping someone's head off. I'm not trying to sound like a tough guy, but you'd be justified to want to crack some skulls (again, metaphorically). You have every right to be pissed and should not have to live in fear in case one of these jackholes wants revenge. That's your property and should be respected as such.

(NOTE: I am not an attorney and cannot give legal advice. :))

If it was my truck, I would keep an eye on the airtag. When it shows its at a location it shouldn't be at, I would go there and take photos.

I would also take a spare key with me, call the local police when I locate it and advise that I found my Jeep at XXXX location when it should be at body shop XXX. I would ask them to send a unit to make a report because I planned on recovering my own vehicle since I thought it had been stolen from the body shop. Its my property after all.

As long as whatever paperwork I signed when I dropped off the truck doesn't say they can drive it, I'd ask the police if I can file charges for unauthorized use of my vehicle. Then, I would charge the body shop manager for allowing it to happen. If that was a no go, I would contact my local TV or newspaper and see if they want to do a story on the body shop use of vehicles in for repair.

The worst part isn't the miles or gas usage. Its if they get behind the wheel drunk and kill a person. And, you are now on the hook in the lawsuit.

That is exactly where my mind is. The Sheriff did recommend NOT taking possession once I find it. I can report it stolen and report where the airtag is located.

Whoever used the Jeep could disgard the keyfob to hide his involvement, which will complicate things.

Then I would follow the Sheriff's advice and report it as stolen.

But, first I would go to where the airtag shows it is located (still with my spare key). And, when the Sheriff does his theft report, ask if I could drive it away instead of it getting towed and put in a storage lot.

Of course, If I had the time and was really dedicated, I would stake out my own truck and wait for the person driving it to get into it. Then I would call the Sheriff to report it stolen while following it. Then I would have the driver arrested on the spot for unauthorized use (probably can't get them for stolen vehicle if they work at the body shop since you contracted with them). I'm NOT suggesting you to do this for safety reasons. But, I would 100% do this myself. :like:

It’s called “Misappropriation”. That’s taking without permission with the intent to return. It is illegal, but to a lesser degree. By all means stake out your own vehicle but don’t approach until LE is there. Too many things can go wrong in that situation in this day and age. Let LE get control of the situation then approach.
