What fire extinguishers are you carrying in your Gladiator? What other safety gear do you carry in your Jeep?

I have the Ecodiesel, do I need a different type for diesel?

So far people have suggest these:

H3R Performance MX250R Fire Extinguisher
Supposedly this one doesn't damage the plastics or paint, but I really have no idea.

Element E100 Fire Suppression
Apparently this one is not under pressure and is very compact. It has a somewhat unusual operation though. You have to "light it" like a road flare.

I am sure a basic fire extinguisher would be good too, but which one?

I have the North American Rescue Patrol Vehicle Trauma Kit in all my vehicles, but it is probably way overkill.

I have a regular basic fire extinguisher in mine and as for what else I carry this is what's under my seat. The only thing missing is emergency blanket, first aid kit, and the extinguisher itself. Compressor is towards the top.

The first aid kit is has a velcro back that attaches to the molle panel but tears away so that it can be easily removed. It was geting banged around a little bit in the bed so since this picture was taken I've moved it to the molle panel on the back of the driver's seat.

Element .. mounted (with the Element clips) to the outside of the bolt retainer box under the rear seat drivers side. Home built first aid pack that goes in a backpack - moves from Jeep to Jeep when needed.

For those using the Element Fire Extinguishers have you test them? Are you using the E50 or E100? Have you seen where the fireman tested the E50 and didn't like it or recommend it? I have only had to put out one engine fire on Jeep that was on the trail. We used typical 2.5 pound fire extinguishers and it took three of them, but the fire was inside the air cleaner and kept igniting again and again.

Halon BC extinguishers 100%. An ABC on your engine might as well total the truck if you don't get it properly cleaned right away because the agents in a typical ABC extinguisher will eat plastics. If you weren't aware, that includes wiring insulation. You will need to carry something for the A fires too if you camp or anything like that but in those scenarios you should have plenty of water.

H3R is a great brand to go with (I have their 2.5lb and am considering upgrading to the 5lb at some point) but I would not order from Amazon. Get it locally from a commercial supply or a reputable auto accessory dealer. Too many of the ones on Amazon are older and with how Amazon deals with inventory, unless it's shipping from the manufacturer, there's no telling if you're getting a new one or an old new stock that's halfway through it's certification.

I went to Lowe's and bought the "automotive" fire extinguisher they sell. Bought a strap style mount with hook-n-loop fasteners from Amazon.

That is definitely one strategy on the subject. I just ordered a bunch of Elide Fire Balls for my XJ, Boat, and Garage. If I can figure out how to mount it in my Gladiator under the hood I might put one there too.

On October 8 , 2020, my all original '29 Woody caught fire. The fire was electrical in nature caused by shorting wires due to failing insulation. It started behind the dash panel which is mounted to the cowl. I should note that the opposite side of the cowl houses the 92 year old 10 gallon fuel tank.

I pulled my Element fire extinguisher (E50) out of my Gladiator and snuffed it out. (I actually used total two as I wanted to be sure it was out.)

It just so happened that a town fire truck (followed by the local fire chief) was driving past (I have no idea why, it was on a side street. I guess they were cutting through.) when it started billowing smoke. They were literally 50 feet from the Woody when it was burning. I had the Element out and activated before they got out of their trucks. They were clueless as to what the Element was, but appeared impressed on how it worked.

The Woody survived with only minor damage (I completed a full replacement wiring harness last winter) and no fire extinguisher residue damage. Hopefully, it will survive for another 92 years.

I know some question the Elements, but it worked fine for me in this situation. Being mounted on the driver's seat rail made for easy access. And, I didn't even have to use the Safecraft Halon from the a different vehicle I had outside.

Will it work in every situation? I do not know. It has its pluses and minuses. I do not know how it would work on a fully engulfed car fire but I don't know how any hand held extinguisher would do for that. I mostly purchased them to save a vehicle on a small fire if I can contain it. It my cars burn out of control, I'll just put in an insurance claim.

I do like that you can activate it and place it adjacent to the fire while you a.) get another fire extinguisher b.) call for help c.) assist an injured person away from the fire. There is no need to hold it while it discharges. (It may have worked great on that air cleaner fire where you just place it in the air cleaner intake and walk away?) It also has a long discharge time and is non-toxic. I also like that there is no mess to clean up and that it does not hurt electronics (note that the very tip does "spit" as its ignites).

over the years, we have bought and replaced home fire extinguishers for the different kinds of causes/types of fires; and yes not all fire extinguishers are the same. most are very specific for the types of fire to be addressed. when it is called for, and fear, panic, and adrenaline kick in, with every second being crucial, what you pick up and use has to be effective right from the start.
