48,000 miles and 4 oil changes.

0 camshafts.
0 camshafts is pretty much the large majority of us. That large majority has a wide range of oil change schedules. The unfortunate minority with camshafts issues also have a wide range of oil change schedules. Some even with 3k changes. I wish we knew the answer and the problem.

Either way, you are not hurting anything and besides the cam the rest of the engine will thank you later.

It's true.

Also, changing your roof on your house every 5 years before it leaks won't hurt a thing either.

But there's no harm, and if it makes you sleep well at night, isn't the peace of mind worth it?

Then the roof leaks anyway after 4 rounds of that.

That's people trying to avoid a failure with extra oil changes, or magic fairy dust in their oil.

I could go either way on changing my oil. I have been on a 10k schedule for pretty much everything. Now, I find myself with a few different vvt engines, cam phasers and timing chain tensioners. One of these engines is up at 150k miles on the 10k oil change, ignoring the computer calculated schedule. The JT has been on the computer schedule. I am now stepping it up a bit to keep track a little better.

Did my first oil change at 1000 miles. Next will be at 5000 and every 5000 thereafter. As someone else said, so easy to remember with that interval.

Well, if the oil change was as costly as a roof job I’d be saying, Oh look!,…another “lifetime” oil right thar!!

With several vehicles, it easier to keep track. ShadowsPapa mentioned this as well. I didn't think I would like it but so far it is working out. I can look at the dash and tell right away when I need to change the oil and rotate. No need for the logbook that I keep losing.
It's one reason I usually don't go over the 5K others use - tire rotation. The tires on my last JT wore totally evenly, perfectly and got rotated every 5K - I've gone 7,000, and frankly, they recommend tire rotation 5,000-7,500 miles.
That means even following the oil life monitor, which puts me close to 7,500 miles with my typical use, I'd be right in what the tire companies and several car companies recommend.

It all works out to "every 6 months" for a rather typical driver.

And a lot cheaper to follow the oil life monitor - cuts your oil change costs big-time.
And you don't have to mess with as much oil disposal. Here, I have to keep it somewhere until I'm ready to haul it to town.

Oh I totally agree with you, I do have a lot to get rid of from time to time. Only problem I have is I run about 2800-2900 a month.. so I have to change mine every 2 months . So what I do is at 50% I change the filter then at 10% which usually has me about 5000-5500 i change the oil and filter. My filters are clean as a whistle other than a slight discoloration from the oil. I do inspect each one. It is probably my OCD. So far its worked for me at 140,455 miles.
I just changed it at 139,670.

I just dumped 35 gallons. I had to make room for the new shop. February I dumped 25 or 30 gallons. Just to give you an idea of my struggle, between my previous 10k schedule and/or annual, I change a lot of oil. Stepping up to 5k changes will give me a better idea of whats next and I knock out a rotation while it's on the lift. I was bad about putting off the rotation if that was the only thing to do. Equipment and tractors still get the annual once over.

Yes I have a vunch to get rid of even currently . Advanced here I come 😂 wished there was some other place where I could get rid of more than 5 gallins at a time .
