Foam under intake manifold

I just finished putting the intake manifold back in the truck after removing to change spark plugs. I just realized that I forgot to insert this foam piece when I reinstalled the manifold. I’m not particularly excited to pull the manifold back off. Just how important is that foam? Can I get by without it?
Truck has 155,000 miles, shuts for reference.

Just a GUESS, but my gut says it prevents heat transfer from the engine to the intake air. (and keep it from the plastic manifold)

Same thing happened to me almost 40k miles ago. I looked it up and it’s for noise reduction. It’s still in a box in my garage.

That makes sense - it's amazing what's been done to engine design to quiet things down.

As far as I can tell it’s like the most expensive dishwasher compared to the next one. Maybe 2 decimals.

Timing chains and sprockets, ribbing on blocks, there's quite a list of things done to make engines quieter (NVH)

The biggest noise reduction attachment in any vehicle is actually ear plugs. It suppresses squeaks, squeals, road noise, wives, and engine knocks. I myself have driven MILES with no oil in my engine just to prove how well they work.

Pretty sure shooting your engine voids the Powertrain warranty.

I even pulled the intake a second time to deal with a failed coil pack. Forgot to put it back that time as well. I know right where it is, but I’ll need to be pretty bored to pull the intake just for that crap.
