Free and Simple Method for Storing Maintenance Summary on Local PC

If you are looking for a free and simple way to store a summary of your maintenance history, this method is about as simple as it gets. Keeping a maintenance summary can be useful for checking things like service intervals and warranty compliance. This option is not intended to replace any other, but rather to help those who want or need to create a simple documentation solution from scratch.

Requirements: Any PC or Mac, Windows Notepad or macOS TextEdit
Plain text file extension: .txt
Tip: When creating a file in Notepad or TextEdit, click on View and enable Word Wrap
NOT required: Microsoft Office, the cloud, online apps

Recommended content format:
YYYY-MM-DD 12,345 Part description service completed

If you prefer the conventional DD-MM-YYYY date format (or with forward-slashes instead of hyphens), just use it instead. I prefer the database YYYY-MM-DD date format because I can scan the year and month more quickly.

The sample above has the most recent service at the top, but any sort order will work.

Just go to the app and login, click on My Vehicle, then click on Service records, and then click Add Record. Everything you add goes right into Mopar's records, which shows all dealer services, your added Service, Maintenance, and repairs in the same place. Very Convenient.

Does your insurance offer a carfax module?

I end up keeping physical receipts, taking photos and video if diy, then documenting on the mopar app and then carfax app too.

I think the important thing is to capture it all for sake of warranty claims, pride and ease of re-sale. I used to not care until I purchased my first used car where the previous owner documented every little item and it put me at real ease.

I just made a spreadsheet in Google docs for that. I have another one for purchases of parts and accessories that includes the date, manufacturer, description, vendor, part number, and cost. I also started a folder in Google Drive and scan all my invoices with the date in the file name so you can cross reference everything.
This way I don't lose everything if my PC sharts itself to death and I can add items like scanned documents from my phone.

As a bonus, I have the spreadsheet set up to give me a running total of every dollar I've spent on the truck in mods, parts, or even oil.

(I don't recommend that last part)

Here is a list of your advice, plus a fifth option (LexisNexis):
1. Keep/scan physical receipts and invoices
2. Take photos or videos if necessary
3. Find out if auto insurance carrier has a CARFAX module
4. Depending on type of info, enter it into MOPAR and/or CARFAX account using their app or their website
5. Get your free LexisNexis consumer disclosure report (auto insurance claims, driver history, and other info)

My LexisNexis report confirmed that I was not at fault when someone crunched my bumper while my vehicle was parked in a parking lot (on two different occasions). It also showed me that more information is reported (from LexisNexis) to an insurance company about a traffic violation than is provided in a full driver history report (to me) from the state--even if the ticket is dismissed by taking a defensive driving course. There was a time, also, when a LexisNexis report would show (for some subscribers) whether your satellite radio was being used to document rapid acceleration and hard stop events. I think a few lawsuits got rid of satellite snooping in a hurry.

My next bumper will be heavy-gauge steel.

First, I'm replying to my own 10-month-old thread because I think that this content belongs here.

More than six years after driving my Gladiator home from the dealership, I finally set up an account on mopar.com.

On mopar.com, Service Records is located under My Vehicle. There, you can add maintenance records to your heart's content.

As mentioned in the first reply above, dealer maintenance records are loaded for the customer. However, some dealer records are inaccurate. In my case, "Lube/Oil/Filter" was used to describe an important (and expensive) service completed while my vehicle was still under warranty.

The Service Records / Maintenance Records section has a nice format. It is easy to view, easy to enter new records, and easy to make changes.

In the maintenance records that I loaded, I included brand and part number in the DESCRIPTION field. You can also include retailer and price, but I chose not to include these.

While I was going through the vehicle verification process, I decided to take a look at how many email messages I've received from Jeep and its affiliates. They have sent more than 500 messages to me since 2019. (If you never delete anything, just search for "Jeep" in your email account.) This works out to about one email message every four days. I don't care because the messages are sent to my junk email account, but this got me thinking about privacy and opt-out.

How to Opt Out of Promotional Content

Jeep might hate me for doing this, but personal privacy is more important than brand recognition & customer loyalty. In my opinion, 500+ messages is a bit over-the-top.

- Completing the following steps should reduce or even eliminate email messages and phone calls from Jeep
- Don't do this if you prefer to receive promotional content from Jeep and its affiliates

Preparation

• Set up or log into your account on mopar.com
• You will need your VIN and contact info

Preference Center

1. On mopar.com, click the down arrow on the top right and go to My Account
2. Under Jeep Brand Customer PREFERENCE CENTER, click Manage Preferences
3. Enter your email address and follow the instructions
4. In each of three separate sections, de-select (all) communications you prefer not to receive
5. In each section, click Save Preference

Privacy Choices

1. At the bottom of the page on mopar.com, go to Manage Your Privacy Choices
2. Select your state
3. Select/activate the three opt-out options for each email address
4. Enter required contact information
5. Click Submit
6. In email from FCA US Data Privacy Office, click Confirm Email

Completing the opt-out steps sooner is better:

1. Set up an account on mopar.com before you buy a Jeep/FCA vehicle
2. In both opt-out sections listed above, submit one opt-out request for each email address (email address is generally used as the unique identifier for you)
   1. For best results, use the same email address for all interactions with Jeep
3. As soon as you buy your vehicle, link the VIN on mopar.com
