I've a 2021 Overland (3.6 gasser). I've taken it on a newbie run one time, in the spring of 2022. There were some seriously deep water sections (there were high level water marks in the bed at the back). I had the diff fluid changed at 37,000 km (23,000 mi), and now it's in for a "peace of mind" service at 80,000 km (50,000 mi) and the dealership says "time and mileage" to change the fluid again. The owner's manual is with the truck at the shop, so I can't check that. Just wondering if the dealership is maybe being a bit aggressive with the suggestion? I really can't complain about these guys, they've been outstanding dealing with warranty issues (rust, paint, leaking window, etc.). Just looking to see if it's on the up and up.

Let the dealer know that you changed the fluid at 37,000 km. You can always decline the service and do it at home if you still want to service the diffs. Changing gear oil is easy (but stinky).

Make sure to open the fill port before draining the oil, just to make sure you can. You don't want to drain the oil from the diff and then realize you can't fill it.

The Owners Manual is available on line as well.

They are certainly being 'aggressive' compared to the Owners Manual recommended service intervals. However, IMO, you are better off with early and often diff fluid changes on these axles, especially the rear.

And it is always cheap insurance to change the diff fluid after deep water crossings (or at a minimum inspect the oil for any signs of contamination).

never would have thought about this... but its really great advice. I'm sure at least a few people had to learn this lesson the hard way for that kernel of knowledge to work its way all the way down to me. Thanks!

They are being aggressive, but I don’t think it’s a bad thing in this situation.
