Is there a way to have both the front and rear trail cam videos show at the same time in a split-screen on the head unit? Does anyone know if this is possible somewhere hidden within the AOBD programming? Most other vehicles that have both cameras have this available as a setting within the head unit and it comes up as soon as you put the car in reverse.
I know one of the questions will be “why”… I have stupid excited dogs that keep me guessing where the hell they are when I pull in my driveway.

I think the head unit would have to be programmed to have a split screen, which would also require a change in the aspect ratio and resolution. I have thought of that and wished it was a feature the first time I used the front cam.

Not on the 8.4 and the software it uses.
The rear isn't considered a trail cam but is a "back-over prevention camera" so they probably never figured such use.

Most other vehicles? Which have a front and rear camera, both?
Or do you mean "most other vehicles have a split screen" option?

Maybe the new larger screen has more options since it's a totally different operating system.

Totally agree the front trail cam was not originally designed as a park assist. Some vehicles that have these split screens include: My 2015 MB GL350, Porsche, Toyota and Lexus. Admittedly some of those also have a surround view park camera system but it’s been around for a decade now and on much smaller screens….you should see the puny one in our MB. As far as the aspect ratio, it’s garbage on them but it still shows you things like dogs running in front of the vehicle. Just surprised it’s not buried somewhere in AOBD settings, if I remember correctly there are all sorts of options for cameras and such to automatically show on the screen, just prefer not to screw it all up if it’s been done before.

maybe it’s going to end up being natural selection for these pups if they keep this up.

As my son said when he bought his Compass a few years ago, and saw the same screen/radio setup in my first Gladiator, the 2020 - he said it looked like it was programmed in the 1990s with CGA video technology and teenage web site design criteria. He called it stone age, archaic, and so on.
The screens and software/operating system didn't change for years, even when it first came out it wasn't exactly cutting edge stuff.

Add that with the fact that for most auto makers, that rear camera is nothing more than what the feds require for back-over prevention and it's included to meet the law, it wasn't intended as a trail camera (although the rear camera on a JT is superior to that on the WK2 series, no comparison! Clarity and color and crispness - JT blows the Grand Cherokee away in the rear camera............. so maybe?)

I suspect it was just never even thought that anyone would ever want them on together - or maybe it was a fleeting thought.
I'm not suggesting it's a bad idea or isn't really something many cold use, just that Jeep being Jeep.............. and those other vehicle being in a different class, it kind of makes sense.

Anyway, good luck - maybe a dog whistle in the exhaust??

You would probably have to upgrade to a 360 system but it is a little pricey but looks nice.

Thanks for your responses, sounds like it’s not truly possible within AOBD. I didn’t even know that CaRobotor existed. Cool products…it’s a shame they don’t integrate with the cameras already in the vehicle. Fascinating the inclusion of the gauge cluster. Not sure why anyone would want to spend that much money though given our systems already have most of that just aren’t full digital screens. I guess to each their own.

I am pretty sure it does integrate with the existing cameras as you have to choose which camera's came factory installed when you order. The 360 cameras is an add-on. Depending on what you want out of your system this one has many advantages over the stock unit, wireless carplay, 360 cameras, DVR, additional apps so it all depends on what the end user wants.

Fascinating, the way I read it, it needed 4 of their cameras installed to make the 360 work. I love this community, you all have so much unique info, perspectives, and technical knowledge.
