So as the title suggests
I decided to order my JT with the Selec-Trac. I live in the north. My days of hard core (3 or 2 wheeling) off road are over. However, I still have an actual 'need' for true 4wd. After researching the Selec-Trac more, and hearing some feedback here, and other sources I decided to take a gamble and go with it. My question seems simple but is probably complex, because the Selec-Trac is a clutch style transfer case.
In 4 auto it engages the front axle but keeps most power to the rear axle unless it detect slippage, then engages the clutches with more pressure to send more power up front.
In 4 part-time (4H) the clutches lock together just the same as if you had a standard T-case and shifted into 4H, only using clutches instead of gears. In this mode, traction control I believe is still functional.
Only in 4L does traction control turn off (I think).
So, for those who know the technicalities and functionality of how the Selec-Trac works, in combination with traction control - my question is how would adding TrueTrack helical style lockers in the front AND rear change the function of this system. - my hope is it would be beneficial (for those of us who are used to solid diff's and have experience in driving in slippery nasty conditions). Please give me a functional example if you can.
In the truck I just sold (OBS 7.3L) I had TrueTrack front and rear. It was seamless. The rear locked up a couple times just the same as a limited slip only stronger of course. And for me and my use, it was perfect.
I could probably figure this question out on my own if I sat down for a few hours and drew it out on paper, and already did so in my head - just wanting to cross-reference to make sure I'm thinking correctly.
Thanks.
