I'm installing a Redarc BCDC1250D to charge a 200AH LiFePO4 battery. One of the wires that needs to be connected is blue and needs to connect to an ignition source. This wire is used to tell the charger that the engine is running and it is safe to charge. I see in the threads that the general guidance is to connect this wire to the cigerette lighter fuse. However, I believe this fuse is also energized when the engine is idle/off or the car is in accessory mode. Is there a good place fuse/wire tap that can be used to tell if the engine itself is running?

Thanks!

Check with Redarc and see if it will actually try to charge in that situation. I'm not aware of any fused circuits that are live only when the engine is running.

If you have the factory aux switches there is a wire under the passenger footwell that has a 12v ignition on circuit, a always hot, and ground, in addition to the aux + wires.

My Genesis dual battery instructions directed to put the fuse tap on the
“Heated seat” fuse. They included a fuse tap to insert then just insert the heated fuse back into the space. Never really checked it but it seems to be an only engine on fuse. Would make sense also as could be a fair draw…..Jack

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately I do not have the factory acessory switches :-(. I queried Redarc customer. support last night with the same question. I'll share the response if they reply.

Thanks

Sounds like a good place to start. I'll give it a test tonight if my oncall shift is quiet

I think the charger looks at the voltage levels before trying to charge, but only looks if the ignition is on. Hopefully, Redarc will respond.

Most likely redarc will just tell you to look at your owners manual. A lot of people find a 'engine on' circuit, maybe that could be even a switch or sensor of some type, and then do a fuse tap from there. Personally I hate that approach, but without the aux switches it's probably your only choice. you could wire an independent switch that you control from the cab. Although you would have to remember to turn it off when shutting off and exiting the vehicle otherwise the DC/DC charger will continue to run.

Go to the Genesis website pick dual battery for JT there is an install video that shows install ,go to about 25.15 on video he states the heated seats only work with engine running and the fuse he taped was F-58. I will check it tonight when I get home to see if that is in fact correct, I should be able to figure it out…Jack

So you can't turn on the heated seats just by putting the truck into the "on" position? You have to start the engine?

Correct, can't have heated seats on in ACC, or if engine is in run but not running ! There is no power to the F-58 fuse when engine is not running, and in ACC, but there is if engine button is in run , but was not started , but heated seats still don't work.
Been a long , long day at work, I left the Genesis fuse tap in and checked the connector end . Might not be where the OP wants to find it but, there ya go works good for my system....Jack

The 12v outlet is off with ignition off. I know - I run my Christmas wreath from it and it goes off as soon as I kill the engine.
I've "tapped" that fuse for ign power - off when you shut down.

Thanks for taking the time to check on that for me Jack. Really helps. I'll update the thread on how the mod turns once it is complete.

Yep I see the same. I repurposed the 12v cigarette lighter power for a wireless phone charger when I installed the Mopar brake controller. There's a power light on the charger and it definitely does not come on until the truck is running.
