I made this contraption using that hoist for my hardtop and freedom panels. My garage isn’t tall enough to lift it off in line with the truck.

The front is just some all thread that goes through the stock front hard top bolt holes and the back is lifted with some repurposed bike lift hooks from harbor freight.

I know it’s not exactly what your looking for but maybe gives some ideas for you.

It's slick. I'm thinking I will have to lift 350-400 pounds and then I'll want to lock it in place for safety.

I had one based on a harbor freight winch for my JKU top, was going to go with a garage smart hoist in my car port for the RTT but at that time (may still be the case) they were having supply issues with no ETA on new orders.

Ended up going with Type 3/1K paracord and 2 2x4s. Hard to see it in the photo but yeah. Takes me about 20 mins to hoist it up by myself. Half that if someone was on the other side hoisting at the same time. I left enough rope on there so a mobile vinyl wrapper can come in the spring and just lower, prep and wrap it right there.

Super simple but works.

I’d use the hoist to get it up there, having static eye bolts or similar up there waiting to act as points for permanent attachment. Then the hoist is just the safety chain.

This is what I did to remove my RTT, Rack and RSI Smartcap all at once or one at a time. I should have static eyebolts to hold it long term but haven't yet. They're still in the Home Depot bag.

I made this originally for my f250 cap, but modified it for my rack and rtt. Just rope, pulleys and hand crank. At some point I will change it to a powered hoist.

So I have a good bit of experience raising things up to the garage roof. I have a cargo pod and a small kayak raised up via normal ropes, but I did rig up a hoist for my tandem pedal kayak. I used one of the harbor freight hoists and some pulley blocks mounted to the ceiling. Those hoists are great and you'd be surprised how much you can get up to the ceiling with one.

In my case, I built a frame for the kayak and used steel cable. It drops all 4 corners at the same time so it just goes up and down level. I mounted the HF hoist on the garage side wall and the remote hangs down. Works great.

My only two comments as I'd guess an RTT and rack are a good bit heavier than my ~150lbs of kayak and gear - The HF hoists are rated using a snatch block to double the pulling power - if you don't want super slow movement, rate up to 2x your load. It's not THAT much more cost wise. Also - Get some heavy duty deck ledger board screws like a headlok screw or something to fasten blocking across your ceiling studs. The ledger screws are long enough to get pretty deep into the joists, and the bigger heads on them hold very well into the wood.
