The title suggested they were going to recover the Gladiator. I kept wondering why they would do so instead of waiting until the water receded. Apparently, that's the plan. They were rescuing their friends and not recovering the truck.

I think that was their original intention, to pull it out. Especially since they were talking about winches and kinetic rope. I also assume that after assessing the situation that plan changed to just a just a rescue of what they safely could.
