The rainy months are over and it’s time to do some trail maintenance. First up is widening my creek crossing so I can get the Gladiator across.

Here's a good picture of why I needed to widen the crossing. It was just too narrow and dangerous to cross. There is a 10 ft. drop off on the right.

I don’t know Mike perhaps you should extend the “ramp” out farther across culvert. It would be better for the rest of us when you have
“Mule’s Creek Run and Camp Over” with us, some poor soul in a jacked up Glady with a beer in his hand is going to go a little too left downhill and get caught going swimming! Thanks for inspiring us all and inviting us to your little Foray September 20/21!
Mike you’re the bestest …..Jack

Well, looks like my camper's little water pump gave out. I didn't winterize it, and it shot craps.

It runs off my power supply and has a built in pressure switch, so all you do is turn on the faucet and the pump kicks in. It's really simple and nice.

I'm looking for any tricks to use this in the winter. Is there some way I can plumb it or a simple/fast way to winterize it, so I can still use the water pump in the winter? I park my truck outside, so any water in the pump will freeze and damage it.

I have thought of this as well and my pump is enclosed in my Alu-Cab canopy. I’ve had it down to 24 degrees overnight and so far so good but I realize that I’m dancing on the edge…

you might try wrapping some insulation around it but who knows u til you try it. The good thing is that the pumps are relatively cheap.

Yeah, luckily they are only $32 on Amazon.

What about putting a tee on the inlet side with a drain valve on it, when putting it away for a bit of time open the drain valve, some water will come out then run the pump which will suck in air and maybe give enough space that pump won't freeze again, pumps are sort of cheap , but buying a pump every year and having to install it, sort of sucks......Jack

Thanks, I'll have to give it a try when my new valve shows up.

With my creek crossing widened, I can finally drive my Gladiator down to the River Clearing on my property. The winch came in handy clearing some big fallen trees. Man I love these rope winches instead of the old steel cable, that would tear up my hands.

I think it’s time for a little road trip. I’ve taken the Jeep East, South, and West. Time to head North along one of America’s most scenic drives “The Great River Road”.

North of St.Louis the Mississippi River has dozens of small river towns with fun attractions, restaurants, wineries, and some beautiful views from the Bluffs.
