I went from this setup
(1 ton axles, TBI 350, 39" BFG, bla, blah, blah) trail rig to my JT.
I knew the JT would be a "compromise" but I havent' used my "trail" Jeep to it's potential for 8-10 years except for a 1-2 day bout per year. It was mostly on Moab trails some St George UT stuff and used primarily for putting around town on the weekends. It was basically a rock crawling competition vehicle from about 2000ish technology era? I have NO complaints with the rig and have used it to help raise our 3 kids.
Going to the JT, I knew there would be trail compromises. I won't treat a $60k vehicle like I would a $12k, 20 year old vehicle. However, I sold the V10 F350, sold the two hauler trailer and am working on selling the trail Jeep after busting up the Jeep pretty good at RR4W Labor Day camp out 2022.
I bought my white diesel JT the Friday after Labor day. I've put 9k miles on it so far. Have over 12 trail days in it and have really enjoyed it. It gets 18-20 mpg with the 37" MTZ at 80 mph and if I was willing, would probably go 98% of the places my trail Jeep would go. I have NO qualms running the JT as it is in about 95% of the places I took the trail Jeep. It's actually a better climber than the trail Jeep (100" wheelbase vs 135" or whatever) if you can clear the rear overhang. I've only been in a couple of situations where the overhang REALLY limited me but I'll just adjust my lines (sometimes some trails) and drive around the overhang.
My biggest concern with off roading the JT is the belly height. I need to get under there and figure out what's vulnerable on the diesel. Learn to drive around that as well and guard it up.
I bought it as it sits and have added HAM, GMRS and CB radios and an ARB twin air compressor. Aside from the 5' bed length, (I wouldn't want it longer unless I'm using the JT as a truck) I have VERY little to complain about and a lot I really like.
There have been 3-4 days where I REALLY wanted to have the F350, but I found a way around needing the HD pickup and either used the JT or called a friend with an HD pickup.
There's been a couple times on a trail where I REALLY wanted the other Jeep. However, I had driven my JT to the trail and needed to drive it home. I ended up spectating in Nasty Half trail at Sand Hollow and actually ENJOYED not having my wallet on the line. Different place for me but so far, a welcome one
YMMV
