I feel like that if we do ever see a V8 it won't be an upgrade-engine-only option, unfortunately. I really hope I'm wrong though. I figure if the JT gets a V8, it will be part of a very expensive themed package deal only.

2021 Jeep truck Trackhawk

Forget the trails, the Jeep truck Trackhawk is built to conquer the drag strip and the open road. With a 707-hp supercharged Hellcat V-8 under its hood, it is the most powerful and most expensive Jeep truck ever, yet also one that can run with the world's premiere performance trucks. While it gives up a little composure and agility to its more expensive peers, it is a …

Jeep JT Truckhawk . . .

. . . I'd rather see a workaday 5.7 in it, personally.

At the early Press launch events, the question was asked a few times to the engineers on hand about a V8 Gladiator and the gist of their response is that any of the current FCA V8's would not meet Federal Crash Standards as the frame of the JT currently sits. While there is aftermarket companies putting in Hemi V8's, they are not on the hook to retain crash standards like FCA does being the OEM. Like you mentioned, it will be an expensive package because of additional engineering cost to make it happen than just the base price difference of the V8 vs. a standard Pentastar V6.

I've seen some of those interviews and write ups. What I have yet to see or hear is someone say the 5.7 specifically won't work. What I've seen/heard them say is HEMI generally. Wishful thinking on my part?, yep! but still . . .

I LOVED my '95 Dakota with the 318 . . .

Since the JT is based on the Wrangler and the Wrangler is designed around the basic size of a V6, "additional engineering" won't be enough. What people are talking about with a V8 is a whole different platform altogether.

I'll bite and take the unpopular opinion here...

WHO CARES at this point how many they sell...
Unless you own a good part of the Company or a substantial share holder, why even be concerned.

From the looks of the SEMA Show this year, the aftermarket equipment folks are ALL over the Gladiator...`
And the comments from several of the vendors were; "We didn't expect the Gladiator to take off like it did"..
We were caught with our pants down.. smile.

We can talk price, marketing, standard options, addon options, off road capabilities, which models were first on the lots, etc...
Bottom line, the Gladiator is just plain awesome!
You can't look at it without smiling, you can't drive it without smiling, it's One of a Kind vehicle that people love.
The Gladiator's presence is not going away anytime soon..

Oh God. Just add another 4K to a 60k Jeep. Lol
Well, there is that. But, no one is paying 60K for a JT anymore. If my choice was between a Pentastar JTR for say 48k and a 5.7 JTR for 52k actual money, there is NO contest! I'm in for the 5.7 for sure.

I can dream!

My point (that went untyped) is that if there's room for a straight six, I'd think there's room for a V8. But, "you're the gourmet around here, Eddie". :)

V8 is shorter than some I6
V8 is WIDER than any I6

I've helped guys adapt cars for a V8 that had I6 under the hood - at times had to re-route the steering shaft to the box because the exhaust hit the steering.

I6 is a bit taller than modern V8s (of course could go with a slant 6!)

We're talking weight as well, and the crash criteria. Space isn't the whole issue, redesign to pass current federal regs is the biggest issue.
