What can cause this type of tire wear?

Both of my rear tires on my Gladiator are wearing unevenly on the outside only. I did a tire rotation & balance about 4K miles ago, but this wear seems to be getting worse. Tires are inflated to 40 PSI. These are OEM tires. Stock suspension with air lift bags and Timbren SES bump stops.

As far as I’m aware, you can’t do an alignment on a solid axle?

What’s going on here?

Is your axle bowed?

No idea. How can you check that?
Find somewhere to park that is as flat as possible, take measurements along the smooth sections on the axle tube to the ground, they should all be the same. As far as that causing your wear, if you get taller measurements closer to the center that could cause that weird tire wear.

Or something that also just popped on my head, check the top bolts for the rear wheel bearings/axle seals, maybe they backed out allowing the tops of the tires to tilt outwards?

Unfortunately once tire wear starts it will just continue to get worse. Chances are the wear started on the front, if running an air bag system inflation height will affect front toe

Not sure if you are going to get an alignment to help eliminate any axle issue, but here are the specs for a Rubicon. The only thing you can adjust on the rear is the "Thrust Angle" AFAIK (provided rear adjustable control arms). Hopefully this helps.
