Just bought a 2020 Found to have some play and travel especially noticeable up around 50-65 mph range have to do a lot of correction. Has aluminum box that has apparently tried to be adjusted because the inner Allen is stripped. But are there any other uprgades like a steering Stabilizer that would help.

I would think that since there was/is a TSB on it that your dealer should do it for free (and bill Jeep).

I jus don’t want a huge bill when I could order the parts and do it myself. But yes it’s a problem on all the aluminum box models jeep should cover it

I was hoping I could upgrade the steering stabilizer and that would help some. Guess I will call a few dealerships and see wat they say

It requires a software update as well since this is EHPS.

Steering stabilizers don't remove play, they just make you believe it's gone. Play is play, anything else masks it.

TSBs are not recalls - they are and always have been "if something is wrong, this is our recommended way to resolve it". Nothing more or less. It means nothing other than a suggested way to fix something. There are hundreds of TSBs on things every year. I've got books and books of them. "If this breaks, fix it this way" is all they are.

Dealers can't simply "bill Jeep". The dealer would eat it. Jeep won't pay. FCA would laugh if they received such a bill. It's out of warranty - any free fix is a customer relations choice by the dealer.

Get the aluminum box off and go with the steel one. It is about $400. It requires some new bolts too. Allmoparparts.com can hook you up. @Benny
You will instantly lose about 1/2" of dead spot. Jeep will not pay out of warranty. Even though it is a known problem.

If it's out of warranty then the bill will be on you. $1250 was what I was told it cost to have it done at the dealership out of warranty. Also you need the software update so letting someone else do it or trying to do it yourself, you will probably run into that problem. Mine wasn't driving bad but since it would be a over $1200 expense if something did happen I went ahead and let my dealership do mine for free under warranty.

As far as a steering stabilizer, that's not going to help at all, they just take road feedback you get from the tires out of the steering, they aren't going to correct wondering or shaking steering. I haven't heard of anyone out of warranty being able to get it done for free but you could try but more likely not. That's probably your issue though because it sounds a lot like what people with the issue had going on and the steel steering box corrected it

I re-read his original post - he just bought it. If it came from a Jeep dealer as a used vehicle - he can talk with them about it at least. And if it's a certified used Jeep - he's got a teeny bit more to talk about.
But if it's from an internet seller - he's not got the dealership that sold it standing behind it.

As an aside - regarding how these should handle:
My son and his family are up here from Florida. They own an Audi EV, it's a real luxury vehicle.
They flew up instead of driving and recharging along the way. They borrowed my JT for the past week to do their visiting other family, and other chores and errands. Those trips included a trip to Iowa City and back (roughly 2 hours each way) and a trip up to other family in northern Iowa and back (2 hours each way, and a few minutes of driving on gravel and other rural roads)
I asked how everything went, how was the truck and so on. He said it rode great, was easy to drive, comfortable (he's 6') and was amazed how "not like a truck" it drove. He found it better than either of my other trucks he's used in the past.
I then told him why I was asking and he said - no wander, good steering, responsive, smooth, and so on.
And that's coming from an Audi SUV.
Of course he commented about the fact it caught wind more - taller vehicle, straight sides, but otherwise was very happy with it.
He later said that his uncles, both "car and truck people" had asked him how it was and he told them fine, good right, easy handling, no problems. (I know them - my ex-brothers-in-law - and I bet they both came running out to check it out)

The steering stabilizer will do absolutely nothing! I put a Falcon 2.0 on mine to get rid of a slight wander/metal box and felt the same way as before.
