My dealer just called me and I’m just waiting for final inspection. Apparently once it’s done, it’ll be loaded on a train to Jessup, Md. Anyone know how long it takes to get from Toledo to Jessup? My knowledge of trains doesn’t extend much past Thomas the Tank Engine.

That could vary alot. Freight trains don't have schedules anymore. Could be another week. I think they wait until they have enough vehicles to fill enough rail cars that are going to the same destination.

Most dealers have access to a transit logistics system that details every movement from the factory door to the dealer. Every time the railcar passes an RFID. Push your dealer for the info - not the sales person, the sales manager. Rail traffic and drop yards have been very slow to the SE part of the country including vehicles sitting at the drop yard for 5 to 10 days before being trucked to the dealer.

Apparently Jessup is the major East cost hub for car manufacturers. So I’m hopeful the wait on the factory grounds is minimal. My dealer made a joke on the phone with me about the only things being in Jessup are Prisons and new vehicles waiting for pickup and delivery. So, terrible joke aside, it gives me some hope. I think I’ll be lucky from a transport truck standpoint due to all of the Safford dealerships near me.

Another major drop yard had 900 vehicles waiting for trucks to pick them up with 7 to 10 day waits.

Sounds like people need to get their acts together.

Easy solution for your next Wrangler order - move to Toledo. At least you can stand at the fence each day looking at it in the factory parking lot until they have a truck available to move it the 3 miles to the dealer.

That’s something to be considered. But then I’d be that kid with their hands in the links waiting for their lost love to come home.
Unfortunately my job doesn’t have direct travel ability, so the waiting game is all I’ll ever have, unless Stellantis wants to move to a mid-Atlantic manufacturing position.

That rail yard is less than a mile from my office. It is unfortunate you can't pick up there. My Grand Cherokee took about a week to get from the Jefferson North plant to the Dealer in Delaware when I ordered it 5 years ago. If i remember correctly it stopped 3-4 times along the way at rail yards.

I could have walked from Jackson, MS to Toledo from the ship date to now. Incredible that in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty, it should take this long and be this logistically frustrated.

Trains usually don't make a direct route from origin to destination (mine did because it was an I-80 train). They travel all over picking up railcars, dropping railcars, waiting on sidings, being switched to other trains, waiting on crew changes. It is the second slowest form of delivery transportation but the lowest cost. They could charge $4,500 delivery charge and individually trailer them to the customer but guessing most can wait a few extra days and pay the $1,495 charge.

So... this is incredibly detailed. Did you have access to this along the way? I'd love to press my dealer for this kind of thing. Right now it's just "It shipped on 6/24 and will get here ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ."
The right people at Jeep Chat will give you more info if you push them, Vivian was always awesome and she tended to work later in the day. I also had two "insiders" feeding me info. One would give me almost daily updates and was assigned to me after I emailed Christian Meunier directly. The other insider worked as a manager over the planning/production dept. at Jeep HQ for wrangler/gladiator and would give me an update when I asked.

To be honest, your dealer DOES have this info. I just think they are lazy as shit or don't know how to do their job. I hear people say all the time that they can't get this info from their dealer because they were told by them it's not available. Well my dealer said the same thing, until I told them that my friend over at Jeep HQ says you do have access and you must not know how to use your system (my exact words with an lol at the end to soften the blow).

Then I told him the specific update on where the train was stopped and told them that just came from my guy and he says he's looking in the SAME system as the dealer is so they have it too. Well I immediately got a picture from he dealer of that exact update in their system with a "yeah you're right". From then on if I ever texted the dealer I got the update.

Here's a screenshot from he dealers system for proof, there is another screen that shows details on the rail transit that I don't have. FYI don't get too excited about the Ramp Arrival ETA, it's extremely FLUID as I went from early am on 6/28 all the way to 9pm on 7/6 and back to early am on 7/5.

I guess I need to be a little more forceful.

Pretty much, just say you spoke with a guy at Jeep HQ and they said specifically that the Dealer DOES have the info on the exact location a train is stopped and that you were either not giving it or didn't know how. If you don' know how they are suggesting you seek training.

Blow a little believable smoke up their ass (not really smoke since technically the above IS true!), just don't be a jerk about it because you do still have to work with them!
