Excellent writeup, I've wanted to do something like this for a while, but I hadn't bothered looking into it.

You saved me a bunch of research lol!

I think I'm also going to do this for under my seat deletes in the rear.

I ended up with this light: 68297172AA

It was only about $13. I have no idea what the difference is other than possibly the mounting? Electrically it plugs in and seems to work exactly like the ones in my jeep...

Nice! No idea what the difference is - as you said, it looks almost identical.

It looks like all of these lights have 2 lights on them, but I'm only seeing the rounded one light up. Any idea when/if the square light is supposed to come on?

I don't know which is which, but one light is the "courtesy" light - that comes on when you open the door. The other is the ambient lighting that you can selectively dim in both front footwells. It takes 3 wires for that to happen - not sure if all JT's have that, or only ones with the LED package, or tech package, etc.
