Super annoying, left my windows down and the key in the center console. Tweaker just happened to be in neighborhood and picked up my key and some other things.

police picked him and his partner up, their car with my things is parked in their impound lot. They are waiting for a warrant. I know some of my stuff is in there as my AirPods are showing the police station as the location. Officer said it can take over 2 weeks to get a warrant.

I got a quote to duplicate a fob including cutting a key for 285$ plus tax. In the event that I need to rekey the vehicle, how does one go about rekeying the interior? The glove, console and seat back.

They don't re-key it. They cut a key in a new FOB, from the factory records, that matches the existing locks.

Please keep in mind that my key was stolen, if I do not get it back from the police, then it will need to be rekeyed.

I'm not sure that is even an option. You'll have to ask the dealer about it.

I can assure you that rekeying is an option and is not limited to dealers.

I am solely asking about the interior locks, but dont think this'll be answered here.

Thanks for your time!

Your glove box, arm rest, rear seat storage can be replaced part number 68384451AB - Glove Box Lock Assembly Cylinder . I'm unsure about the rear seat locks, but would assume they can be too and probably the same p/n. I just ordered the parts to rekey my storage box to match my new Gladiator, still waiting on the parts.

Maybe I’m missing the issue. - Does it really matter if the key gets cut to anew configuration? When you. Get a new fob programmed the old fob will no longer register to your JT.
whoever has that fob will not be able to locate your JT by hitting the panic button, so they can unlock it with the key. So the probability of the key itself being involved in a future breakin attempt would be slim to none.

Not entirely true, While yes, after a rekey, the "remote " functions are no longer the same, the Physical Key and RFID do still work.
So if the tweeker knows where to find the OP's car can unlock the door and start the jeep by pressing the remote to the start button.

@Gatorized you might be conflating cutting with programming because those are separate.

I guess I would check with the impound lot to see if they can verify the fob is there or if it was cataloged among the tweekers possessions when he was arrested. For the simple purpose of ensuring it was documented as being stolen property so OP can get it back.
i get the difference between the cut key and the fob programming. The key does not start the car, only accesses those areas such as door, back seats and console. Once you reprogram a new fob the old fob should be useless except as supazuk indicates it may still have rfid capability.

I have used The replace a key Insurance had jeep order cut a key and reprogram both, (wife washed my old key) I asked if they wanted the key back he said they program them all the same lost stolen or damaged.

I went home pushed start button "no key present" then I pushed the old dead key to the start button and it started. On the bright side I ordered a Threedom https://mythreedom.com/collections/...p-tire-with-rfid-pocket-waterproof-key-holder that I stow in a hidden location in the truck

*note the new mini key will not shut the alarm off*

@Gatorized thanks for the suggestion of checking with the impound lot… hadn’t thought of that. ;) they are waiting for a warrant. A different AirTag of mine is showing up in their lot and still they are waiting.

I had a new key programmed so that I can drive the vehicle, it was programmed to my old code so if I get my old key back I’ll have two working keys. Otherwise I’ll need to reprogram and rekey.

also I live in a gated community, my truck is covered but not enclosed.

@Supazuk I’m going to order a fob from them. I really hate the stupidly large jeep keyfob, which is the reason it was in the center console in the first place.

you heard it here first folks, I blame jeep! :)
