Harley on the tail gate?

Anyone know if the tailgate can hold a HD road glide? About 1000 lbs

Will a RG fit in the bed at all? They're 8 feet long the wheelbase is over 5. It may fit. I wouldn't be worried about the weight it won't all be on the tailgate. I'd be more worried about the length. Kendon makes some very nice motorcycle trailers that's how I'd transport my bikes if I had to bring both.

Yea with the tailgate open it will fit, that's why I akaed about the wieght on it open

Could always use the wood trick I seen ppl. Do

I have a trike that's going in the trailer that's why that's not an option

The tailgate can hold only 500 pounds halfway or down. Should be fine since all the weight is not solely on the tailgate

Good Morning,

Sorry for the delay in response, per the Jeep team:

1. Up to 500 lbs payload can be carried in the bed with the tailgate in the mid position. This payload rating is dependent on the sheet cargo being properly supported with 2x4s positioned in the bed as specified by the owner's manual.
2. Ramp load at end of down tailgate
   • Single ramp = 600lbs
   • Dual Ramp = 425lbs/ramp or 850lbs total
3. Distributed load across down tailgate: 1850lbs

This is from another discussion. The Harley will probably max it out if loading from a ramp but the full weight of the bike will be spread out so I don't think you will have a problem.

Not as big as a Road Glide I assume but for reference. 1200GS

What I ended up doing with a truck I had some years ago. Snowshoe, spread the load. The weight of a bike, hitting a pothole, on a tailgate? Too much to bear. I've seen some tailgates collapse.
