Stupid Poll and question. But I'm considering moving from Southern California to Northern Idaho... A few people have said you will hate it because it gets super cold. And not to do it. For any members who live up north or where you get an extremely harsh winter, do you have opinions? Are you ever literally stuck in your house because of the weather for long periods of time? Is it depressing? Would you rather deal with the winter being bad than summers of like 110' degrees? I feel like I would be fine as long as I could work and leave the house most of the time during the winter. I mean today its 106 degrees for the next three days so it's not like I can do anything comfortably outside unless its early in the morning or the evening. Granted I can drive somewhere but not so much do stuff outside and be comfortable. What say you members? Freeze your ass off or fry your ass off?

We live in the mountains of Colorado at high elevation, so our winter is pretty long. We came from FL however. We find that we do far more outdoors year round here. You can put clothes on to be comfortable in cold weather. In hot humid weather, you’re stuck indoors or in the water. We love it here, and won’t go back to a super hot geographical area.

I lived in the Middle East for a couple of years. I vastly prefer rough winters over rough summers. Heat, there's just no escape from, and heat with humidity sucks. Winter is just more clothes unless it's icey. Ice sucks.

Pretty much what I have experienced. If it's cold, you can dress for that. When it's crazy hot out you can't really do anything about it.

I moved to Texas to get away from the awful winters. Now we have what will be our retirement home in Pagosa Springs Co. I would not move back to a place with a wet winter but the winters in Co are so dry that it really does not seem cold most of the time. The Texas heat sucks for several months a year.

With cold weather you can add layers, better jacket, etc. When it is hot, you can only take off so much.
We are planning on retiring to Wyoming to get away from the heat.
