I haven't heard anything too crazy.

I went to go check out an overland yesterday and the sales guy told me that they are selling like hot cakes, which I know isn't true.

Also, he mentioned being the number one volume dealer in TX....why does every sales person use this line! That's something you heard back in the 90's.
Because EVERY _______ car dealer is the largest volume in _____________ state...WELL almost.

There are a ton of dealers that are the largest volume, but what is the metric? Zone, District, single dealer (John Doe Jeeps) or multiple Jeep dealers under the same banner such as Mac Haik here in Texas.

Take Away: yes you can but the largest volume dealer, just depends upon what the metric is you are measuring against, result almost every dealer is the Big volume dealer!

Anyone besides me remember when the Russians held a race to show they could make better cars than the US. The results as published: Russian car finishes in 2nd place, American car finishes next to last...the truth, there were only 2 cars in the race! All in the SPIN!

That said it's generally simple: Look out across the lots if you can measure the lot size in Acreage and it full of new cars, they prob are a large volume dealer. BUT KEEP you eye on the turnover, if the at Red Rubi has been sitting out front for the past 6 weeks its because they don't sell a lot due to high pricing.

On the other hand, where I buy my truck, his showroom is one car big, out front is maybe 50 car total, but he is a big volume dealer. WHY he sells them FAST and cheap. First time I walked in Matt, (1 of only 2 salesmen) said we sell at Invoice off the lot or if you want to order.

I heard of a salesman telling someone the ❤419 in the bed meant it was number 419 of a limited edition. Not sure what they will tell the customers when there is more than one Gladiator on the lot

If you mix a willingness to LIE + ignorance of your product = total BS!

Hey @Ole Cowboy this sales jerk just missed their calling, should be flipping hamburgers at McDonalds and hidden from the view of paying customers.

I don't have a Jeep story, but a few days ago while waiting on my F 350 truck getting its oil change I wander over into the dealership to talk about ordering a 2020 F 450. After nearly 45 min of walking the lot and not finding either a salesman or a F 450 just to see what a '19 is like I head to the showroom. 20 min goes by and no a single person said a word to me, finally I ask a guy for some help. I say F 450 I want to order a 2020 and he tells me he has what I need. 2016 F 450 with ONLY 30k miles. He takes me out to see this beast. Rode HARD and hung up wet, good grief, I have owned cars with 130,000 miles in cleaner and better shape. The truck was what you would expect if someone lived in it for 30k mi! In/out beat like a drum.

He then tells me I can get into this gem for only $60,000. I look at him and tell him you know this truck did not sell for $60k NEW...then he tells me F 450 are special order only and extremely rare and go up in value not down. I tell him that truck should be buried, can't believe you have this on the lot of a Ford Dealership! I want to talk about ordering an F 450 2020, OK?

Let me show you what we just got in.

EXCUSE ME, but this is a F 350, I need an F 450 and would like to order one here if I can.

You will love this F 350 2019 model, look at the interior on this (equiv Sport mdl Jeep)

I own a F 350 2019 King Ranch now, why would I want to buy this?

As we are standing there, a family walks by and he says anyone helping you? NO, Ok what are you looking for as he walks away without saying a word to show them a USED Ford Focus!

I read that they made 4190 Special additions to be sold only in Ohio. I think it’s Toledo?? Anyway the reason for the 419 is that’s the area code.

For many of them, a hamburger flipper would be a piece of complicated machinery...

Mostly I feel sorry for a lot of them. They are in a job long hrs, low pay, and in order to sell a car they have to get permission and approval. So they NEVER feel any accomplishment of doing a deal.

In most dealers, you walk in the door and tell the sales guy I will give you $100 over MSRP + TT&L, they guy would have to go get approval to do the deal. My personality would NEVER allow me to work like that.

My dealer kept insisting that the (non functioning ) nozzle in my grill used to clean the forward facing camera, WAS the forward facing camera

I know none of you know me, other than a few posts on the board. And I've shared in one of them that I've always enjoyed the car buying experience. My dad traded cars all the time when I was young and I loved it then too.

I bought a Subaru in 2011 and another Subaru around 2012/2013. Great experiences and very simple, no nonsense. Then I bought a Cayman in 2015. And we added a second Cayman for my girlfriend and a Macan in late 2016 and 2017. Those experiences are very straightforward as well. I traded my GTS for a GT4 January 2018. Also very straightforward.

I share that to say I had completely forgotten what it was like to buy a vehicle from a brand that is saturated in dealerships. I shopped trucks for over a year. Raptors, Roush trucks, Chevy, Dodge, and finally landing on the Gladiator. It's absolutely painful. I still love it. But I walked out of so many dealerships shaking my head at the ridiculous things I heard.

My two favorites were at the same Jeep dealer around metro Atlanta.

"Definitely don't buy a Ford. They have more problems than any other vehicle." -Even if true, you clearly saw me get out of a Ford vehicle. Why speak negatively of a brand I own?

"Jeep is being very secretive of the Gladiator and they aren't telling us anything about them" -with a Gladiator sitting on the lot... Like they've kept their sales training and product training a mystery. Just say you don't know.
