this is a sport S with a few options. I jut wanted to get their first no haggle quote before I even attempted to negotiate. The guy said they put alarms on all their cars and the door guards. I assume I can get those taken off?
Athey had the car listed at 38k on their site but they said that’s the purchase price, not the lease price. Is this really a thing?

I never leased a vehicle so I’m not sure how that goes... as far as the alarm and door guards, those are dealer add on BS. I had to drive 1.5 hours away to find a dealer that doesn’t install add ons.
Call around and ask if their vehicles come with dealer installed items. Default response is “All dealers have preinstalled items”, but they don’t work at the other dealers.

In this scenario at r the vehicles all actuslly installed with that before purchase? Is there any way to not have it installed?

To me the discount isn’t bad, but the add-ons I would question. Is the alarm something you want or need? Same with the door guards. If not visit another dealer with nothing added to the vehicle or sticker.
Dealers like to add things to a vehicle to drive up the selling price and their profit. A local Honda dealership adds $1,999 adjusted market value to every car, plus paint protection, wheel locks.... $2,999 worth of unnecessary junk. But they sell a lot of cars and make a lot of money. I ran from that dealership a few years ago, found one with no add-ons and bought the car I was looking for.
When I bought my Gladiator last summer I started the negotiation at sticker price, nothing added.
Not sure about CA but the non tax fees of over $1,300 is that standard in your state? In NC we pay 3% tax of the selling price or trade difference, title and tax.
Good luck in your search, the Gladiators are an awesome vehicle.

Look at the fine print on the dealer's website listing. It seems that a lot of dealer's advertised price excludes destination charges and include some unique rebates that most will not qualify for.

There is not difference between a lease price and a purchase price as far as the dealer is concerned. They are just fast talking you.

Non Tax fees ??? WTH is that ?

My dealer puts "anti theft VIN number etching" for $299.00 on every vehicle on the lot and then has the audacity to explain how it helps you and WILL lower your insurance ... This is a massive load of crap ... You can buy window etching kits on Amazon for $15.00. They then take the approach of saying "well, its already done so we cant really undo it so your stuck with it" ...

I told them no, stuck to my guns and guess what, they didn't charge me for it ...

I would ask for a detailed breakdown of every cost that is above the vehicle price that you are paying and then I would have them removed one by one until I was just paying for the vehicle, destination, and Taxes ...

Ask for the invoice and then subtract 7%. That’s what most are getting right now. Invoice is their cost but they get incentives and other to allow them to sell well below invoice. Every area is different on what people seem to be paying but 3-7% below invoice seems like where you should be. If they won’t show you the invoice walk away. I would also suggest separating the negotiation on price from the style of financing. I would not accept paying more to lease. That sounds like a scam. And you should not have to pay for the silly add ons. They can remove or buy somewhere else.

That's an awfully expensive alarm ($969). And if door guards are those rubber strips along the outside edge of the door, $485 sounds about $475 too much.

Dealer probably installs them on every car because they're money makers.

Non-tax fees would need some explaining. Dealers typically have a doc/admin but certainly not anywhere close to $1358+$85.

Doesn't the JT already come with an alarm? Honestly I've never tried to break into mine but I thought that stuff was as standard as power locks these days.

I would start by reviewing the window sticker. Is the MSRP the same as their “Market Value Selling Price” or have they already added a sketchy market adjustment up front? I think there are enough serious red flags that I wouldn’t consider working with that dealership.

Purchase vs lease price. Yes that can be a thing if the manufacturer has certain deals or rebates for buyers. Sometimes they do it for a lease side making it more attractive.

Don't pay extra for an alarm and door guards that are mandatory, find another dealer.

Yeah when I was negotiating for a gladiator I went to a couple of dealers that had the advertised price minus the “Dealer extras“. I’m not paying 3k for shit I don’t want. The only add on mine had was they put tint on the front windows and didnt even mention or charge for it

You have a couple ways to handle this.
1. Find a different dealership, they are crooks practicing shady ass addendums for extra profit.
2. Clearly tell them You’re not paying for anything their dealership added period. Take it off/leave it on you don’t care it is up to them. If they balk you walk and refer to step 1.
3. Tell them you will not pay more than $500 for the “non-tax” fees they are referring to. If the balk you walk and refer to step 1.

Dealerships do routinely charge admin fees and such and I don’t have issue giving up to $500 to cover admin expenses because that is standard practice at every dealership I have ever bought a car from. But near $1400 is excessive. It is hard to tell what the real prices are because they are twisting the numbers on this deal excessively and on purpose to confuse. They give you a price but is that top line price actual MSRP or some value they decide the truck is worth? Where is the Moroney sticker price? Then they start putting a “dealer discount” on the top line only to take that discount back in overpriced junk added to your Jeep that you didn’t want or ask for. Then they take more back by an excessive admin fee. They are probably one of these that do this so they can start way higher than true market value to make people think they got a good deal when it isn’t really a deal at all or worse it is a really bad deal.

I would probably just find a different dealership.

Before you lease, you should really read up at Leasehackr. They've got a great calculator that can help you gauge whether you're getting a good deal or not.

If you don't know how leasing works, the dealer will take you for a ride by manipulating the MF (money factor, the equivalent of APR on the lease) and playing other games with you.

Some cars also just don't lease as well as others for a number of factors, so you need to take into account that the Jeep might not make financial sense to lease. I personally usually lease cars, but I am buying my Gladiator because I am would be too scared to take it off pavement with a lease.

My general guidelines are to find out the MF for your ZIP code (you can get that by asking in the Edmunds Car Forums) and don't let them manipulate your APR to squeeze more money for themselves out of the deal, know the capitalized cost of the vehicle, ideally negotiate the price of the car without telling them that you're leasing so you start out with a price well below the MSRP, and I always try and roll everything possible into the lease so I know what I am paying.

Often times, the finance guys will sit you down and run you through the wringer if you don't know what you're doing. I always have my own worksheet ready once I know the cap cost, residual, and money factor so I can easily see if they're hiding any fees in their numbers.

Can you actually negotiate the money factor? Isn't that from the bank and based on your credit?

The Mopar door guards are maybe 75 bucks if you add them yourself and are just held on by double sided stickey tape. I got impatient and put them on in a 7-11 parking lot on the way Home.

With a 45k MSRP your going to have power locks and the gladiator with power locks comes with a Factory alarm. Trust me what ever there putting on that jeep for 1k isn’t anything you want on your jeep anyways. Look up how dealers do those installs. Its looking for trouble down the road.
