I go back and forth myself between Sport S Max Tow and Rubicon. I always come back to the capabilities of the Rubi.
35s on a Sport S don't look quite right to me without a lift, and the Rubi is a bit higher than the Sport S as I recall.

Just my .02, good luck!
my base sport with a 130 dollar RC 2.5 inch lift and 35s, no max tow, no issues

Its been years in the making and the closer I get the more detailed I want to get. Ill keep this truck for life and im leaning rubicon for 410 gears plus 500 more towing. I dont plan on too many crazy mods other than bumpers and a winch and 35s so the rubicon is pretty much already set up without too much modding
Based on what you've said, get Rubicon. In my experience, you are going to have to special order to get a manual, so you can get only what you need, nothing more, to keep cost down. Wait until the best factory incentives are out there.

BTW, I ordered a manual Overland, which was best for my needs, so it is not a case of "do what I did".

What kind of mpg are you getting? I'll bet it's slow to pass anyone.

Also, sport s max tow can tow 650 lb more than rubi, on paper and in auto. Not sure bout manual. Max tow gives u the track lok rear and 4.10 gears.
Max Tow also forces you into an auto, so if you want 4.10 gears with the manual, I believe your only choice is Rubicon.

Standard soft top will be a must. Only options im wanting are aux switches and tow package
Depending on how many things you would add that need switches you might want to look at some aftermarket options which offer more switches and not have to worry if the jeep has them installed or not.

As some know I've been on the forums for awhile and I've been watching the gladiator ever since it came to life. I've spent the last two years slowly killing my debt where my finances will be In order to buy a gladiator sometime next year but im stuck. I've built probably 1000 vehicles from different trims on the build website. What I do want is manual transmission. I can go as base as it goes and go to the willys package which looks nice but 3 73 gears less towing but more payload and with manual windows I constantly see myself having issues because I like to roll down windows in bad rain ect so I can see clearly before I drive off so that will be a pain. I can upgrade to the willys sport s manual but rubicon is just 5k away and ill have 410 gears and have alot more to go with it. Only want aux switches and tow package regardless of trim. Would you jump to the rubicon manual and call it a day or go sport s willys manual. Im tired of going back and forth and making myself aggravated. Yes I can regear sport s but by the time I do that I might as well buy the rubicon. Someone point me in the right direction before my head explodes. Don't plan on any major rock crawling but would like to overland and camp through trails
I have the manaul JT Rubicon and I would get that because of the 4:1 transfer case while 4 wheeling. With the manual and clutch, you will appreciate more the 4:1 transfer case more. I wheel in the forest in hilly/mountainous areas and I am always in 4WL and never using the clutch. You can still practically stop in 4WL, 3rd gear without clutching. This will also help you a lot going over big obstacles in 1st or second gear.

In addition, with the long wheel base, the JT will bottom easier. You can help that by keeping more air in your tires, but, that makes your tires spin --- hence the lockers are necessary.... So, since I do not have a lift kit yet, I tend to keep my tires at 22 lbs and rely on my lockers if I start spinning. So, again the Rubicon is better without a lift because you can take advantage of those lockers.

Good Luck whatever you choose, they are all so much fun !

Exactly so either have to go rubicon or do a regear with a sport for 410 gears
