Heated steering wheel not working

Thanks for all the replies guys. A lot of good advice here.

ESS works and battery seems fine. I should probably check voltage when cranking just to make sure.

I’m not seeing any codes displayed anywhere. But it hasn’t been scanned.

Heated seats both work. But there is a heated mirror that doesn’t work and I can’t remember which one.

I’ll give an update when I know more.

if ESS works then it's not a low voltage issue. That's one of the first things to stop working.
Heated seats working is another tell voltage is ok.

Just a FYI, a generic OBDII reader probably will not detect any module codes of this sort and will probably need something like JScan or similar that can do a full module scan for any latent codes.

My heated steering wheel quit working. Turn it on, light illuminates for 2-3 seconds, then light goes out and wheel doesn't heat up.

Did a little searching and didn't find much. Found a year old thread here. A few threads on the JL forums. Some are saying replace the wheel, others saying replace a module.

I'm out of warranty due to miles. Any pointers for troubleshooting this?

just saw your post, am having heated steering wheel not working problem. light will turn on for 2 seconds then shut off. was wondering if u found out why. is it the backp battery?

Came here to search for this problem as well. I have the exact issue. Push the button, light comes on for ~1-2 seconds, then goes off. No heat to the wheel.

Anyone figured out what is going on? Clearly this seems to be a recurring issue for multiple users.

FYI I have a 2020 Rubicon, just under 40,000.

Gonna try and replace the aux battery. Saw lots of people say that when this goes bad, weird things happen. As with many of todays cars, dumpshit engineers put things where a normal person can't get to but, I will try!!!

That has nothing to do with anything as far as heated wheel, seats and so on. It's just more internet lore. The batteries are TIED TOGETHER when the truck is running. That stuff doesn't run off the "aux" battery".

you need to do some troubleshooting before throwing time and money at it and believing the crap on the internet about the aux battery causing climate change, earth quakes, bubbling paint on the hinges, cameras not working or the seat being too low.

Weird stuff happens when the voltage gets low, yes - but how about taking a $19 walmart volt meter to the batteries when the truck is off, and also watching the voltage reading in the cluster or off road pages while it's running. For all you know, it could be your MAIN battery gone bad, dropping voltage.

past summer, on display i had alarm light come on that said aux batt was bad. called my salesman at dealership and he said that aux battery can cause all kinds of odd problems and was pain in ass to replace. light went off after a few days. left it alone, winter came and found out no headed wheel. my main battery now shows 12.1 when off, 14.5 when running. i'm just thinking that if i have to replace main battery, i might as well replace aux too?

I'm also coming up on 5 years and probably should replace the batteries soon. But it does seem, I don't know... unlikely? to me that everything on the truck works perfectly fine except a heated steering wheel, and for that to be due to a weak battery.

ya, it is weird. my heated seats work fine on both sides. i just remember reading somewhere on the internet that if ur battery is bad, the system sheds power to accessories.

Sorry, there is no alarm light for the aux battery..and the dealer guy is full of crap. You really believe a SALES PERSON knows these engines and electric systems. Sorry, but I'd never go with what anyone says except a tech who actuaolly does the work - not a sales person, not a typical service advisor, and if they even suggested there's a light for that auxiliary battery - I'd walk away laughing.

MAYBE all you need to do is charge them. It's possible they are simply LOW and you don't drive enough or far enough to keep them charged. Try that first - charge the batteries, reset the IBS and see how the voltage holds up after that.

Check the battery voltage with the truck off with the truck off. If it's low, CHARGE the batteries. It could be all that is wrong is you just don't drive it enough and far enough to keep them charged. I've resolved problems simply by using a battery charger - and go on fine for months after that. I don't drive long or far enough to keep them fully charged.

i did buy a scan tool that told me my rear hatch door brake light was out. it was and i replaced it. now that works too (didn't realize that i even had one there). i thought that might have caused the problem but no...
