I've noticed my JT Overland seems very choppy shifting between gears in automatic at various speeds. It doesn't happen all the time and I know the minute I get a mechanic from the dealer in the vehicle it will disappear. Anyone else have a similar experience? I saw a post about the transfer case, would this cause the bad shifting that I'm feeling?

Thanks!

With the transfer case they were hearing grinding noises so I wouldn't think that would be it. Have you done any offroading recently in it? Checked for tranny leaks ect?

Mine has been relatively smooth. I notice the downshifting in lower gears more than anything, but it helps with braking. I am however used to the ZF 8 speed from the Grand Cherokees. Maybe you are just noticing the difference from your last vehicle if that shifted like butter?

I came from a very well worn 2008 4dr Jeep Wrangler that I purchased new off the showroom floor in 2008.

I just drove it off the showroom floor 10 days ago and been no where near any offroading. In fact, it hasn't been in 4 wheel drive yet.

Can you describe what you mean by choppy? Is it upshifts or downshifts? Certain gears only? Light, medium, or heavy acceleration?

The transmission in mine has felt pretty solid on the whole? But I feel some shifts more than others. Nothing that has felt abnormal and most commonly explained by my throttle inputs. If I'm in manual mode, it's a non-issue. But my driving style is often different. What I've experienced I've chalked up to software.

I would try to identify any specifics when you experience it. If it's all the time and the shifts always feel thay way, I'd follow the advice and take it in. They may say no trouble found, but at least then it is documented.

I've noticed it at all speeds. The other day my wife was rising with me and she made a comment about the shifting and how it didn't feel smooth and I had not said anything to her yet. I'll keep an eye on it and see of it continues.

Have you had any change or learned anything about your rough shifting? I am less than a week into ownership and would also say the shifting is not right. In my case the rough shifts are almost always in the low gears coasting to a stop with little to no brake pressure applied. I have had shuddering, hard shifts, and a few times it has lurched forward while decelerating. It seems slow on upshifts under 35 mph. When I stop accelerating it feels like the brake is being applied as speed drops rapidly. I would expect an automatic to have more of a feeling of coasting when not accelerating or braking.

I have noticed that my gladiator down shifts from 8th gear just when I barely give it a little gas I have been trying it in the manual mode and just leaving it in 7th gear and it seems to pull a lot better

I am experiencing the exact same issues. And also my wife noticed it without me pointing it out. It's almost feels like a manual shifting with the slight decrease in speed before shifting into the next gear and the small surges when your in too high of a gear. I have a max tow and I did install rubicon takeoffs and have yet to correct the speedo. I just have never had an automatic shift like this and am trying to make sure it's not a normal jeep thing as this is my first one.

Ok I was thinking around those lines as well. I might throw the stock wheel tire combo back on to rule that out
