I did a regear 2 years ago from the stock 3.73s to 4.88s at a local shop. They provided a Tazer mini with the install and set everything up. Over the last 6 months I've noticed that the speedo was drifting from the GPS when using google maps and other gps apps and was approaching a 3mph difference - GPS being slower than the truck reads.

Today while sitting in my car during my daughter's doctors appointment I got on youtube to figure out how to open the tazer settings thinking that maybe I should adjust the tire size due to wear from driving about 30,000 miles since the regear and that may fix the inaccuracy. To my surprise the gear ratio was set to 4.10 not 4.88 that was installed!

I have updated this, but my question is what issues could this have caused? Will the recorded mileage on the odometer be off? Anything else I need to push back on or be concerned with?

Thanks in advance.

Your odometer is based off of your tire's and the tire size entered. The gearing would effect transmission shift points.

Perfect, the tire size was correct. just the gearing was off. Looking forward to towing and feeling the difference.

Yeah, I never felt the need to check, 2 years later it feels like a new truck again. A bit disappointed they didnt do it correct for the $$ spent. Really hoping there are no long term concerns.

Well, happy to report that the truck feel SO much better. The shifting is so much smoother. Only done a few 15 mile stints but feeling pretty good.

Any other feedback is appreciated.

I've had a Tazer in my Gladiator for 5 years now. It did randomly lose its mind once and lost my settings. I pulled it out and updated it's firmware and it has been fine since then. I've also started the practice of updating its firmware every time I have to pull it out for a dealership visit. Seems to behave as it should nowadays.

I have tazer and i use it for the live functions and love it. However I have found it is not so good with permanent changes and i do all those with J-scan. The benefit of leaving tazer plugged in is it acts as a security gate way by pass for the factory OBD port ... no need for a by pass cable ... So yes tazer setting are not permanent like J-scan or Alpha OBD

If you’ve had the Tazer for two years and this is the first time you interacted with it, I’m hoping you take the time to learn how to use it and what to do when you go to the dealership. It’s crucial that you unmarry and remove it prior to taking the vehicle to the dealership if anything they are doing involves a software update. I hope you haven’t already missed this opportunity. If you do not unmarry and remove whatever update they provide will be removed/lost whenever you do unmarry.
So by un-marrying the Tazer it allows for factory updates to be permanently installed in the computer. When you marry the Tazer back up it, you reprogram your parameters and viola…back in the game. A little pain but very important. Also, check for software updates for the Tazer as well and keep it updated. Lastly , since you have re-geared, any work involving transfer case or transmission control modules etc. may require you to marry and program back up in order for the new module to work correctly and not throw codes. This happened to my when they replaced my transfer case and control modules. Find a dealership that is cool with Tazers and work with them instead of hiding it from them. Make sure you fully understand the marry/unmarry process as well…it’s a little tedious.

You should also update the tazer. If its been installed for two years and never removed then it defiantly has a few updates.

So, ive never unplugged when taking the truck to the dealer, they actually outfitted this jeep with a lift and bigger tires, but used a Hypertech speedometer calibrator update the tires - that just saying, they dont care about the tazer. When unmarrying, does the truck lose the setting for tire size and gear ratio?

For my needs, it sounds like a j-scan may be in order so I can directly program these and not have to worry about the hassle of the tazer when going to the dealer.

Yes, once unmarried you need to reprogram all the settings upon re-marrying. Once you do it a few times it’s effortless and only takes a few minutes. It’s more than just “unplugging” it. Not sure if the J-Scan has the same requirement to in-marry?

Like any other electronic component.... stuff just changes randomly for no apparent reason.
Even my Jeep settings change periodically.

Personally, I wouldn't leave the Tazer in that long without taking it out for a refresh/update.

I take mine out completely anytime I visit the dealership. While I have it out, I hook it up to the computer to get updates. Even if the firmware hasn't changed, I still run the update.
Things can get corrupted. I'd rather start from scratch.... a refresh.

This is exactly what I do as well. Un-marry and run a Tazer update each time it goes to the dealer, or every six months.
