I am struggling with this one y’all. The mini is plugged into correct ports, the app has been downloaded but I can’t get the steering wheel controls to function.
Please understand that everything was done procedurally and nothing is visibly broken. It really feels like a communication error somewhere. My situation appears to be the only one I can find on the internet that is this specific.

Ok, I'm a bit confused. What app?
There is software that runs on a pc to update the firmware, but that's about all it does.
By" everything was done procedurally" you mean you downloaded and updated the firmware before installing it, and then followed the directions to the letter about remapping the steering wheel buttons and then doing the required reboots and sleep cycles?

I guess we should also verify you have a JL mini, and not a JL lite? Because I do not think the lite supports button remapping. If you bought the mini from the recent deal on Woot!, there was an issue with some people getting shipped the lite instead of the mini.

^ +1 to that. I bought a Mini in the woot deal, received a Lite (in a box labeled Mini, of course). It's impossible to know which model it is from the outside, and not trivial to figure it out even in their utility program (which BTW is windows only). Lots of steps where things can go wrong there.

(I returned it, still waiting for refund)

If you're trying to remap the 3 cruise buttons you need to be on the audio menu, hold the RIGHT arrow button and then then press the button you want to remap until it lands on the feature you want to assign to it.

Thanks for all these responses.
I have a USB cord that came with my Tazer, I plugged that into my computer and then into my tazer.
Then I opened the ZPU.exe
Then I hit update to see if new firmware was available (was not). I got a pop up stating, no data was available on my device (blank/not pre programmed?) I was able to continue even though no data was present.
Then I set everything to default on ZPU and went to plug it into Jeep. After plugging it in, I hit the left arrow button on steering wheel and the cancel cruise control button…nada. Can’t get beyond this…just left tazer plugged in.

Was the dash in the audio mode? Did you have the ignition in the run position but not running?

I would reach out to zautomotive. There should always be data on the device.
When you say you hit all the defaults… was there a send to taser button???

If it had not yet even been married to his vehicle, there probably should not be any data yet.

Jeep needs to be in the RUN position, but without the engine running. Basically push the run button without stepping on the brake. Make sure it's in RUN, and not ACC mode. Instrument display then needs to be in the audio display. THEN you can do the left arrow (HOLD) + Cancel.
Then you need to go to the marry/unmarry screen, and "marry" the Tazer to your Jeep. After that you can make other changes. Then you MUST do the reboot and sleep cycles EXACTLY as outlined in the directions or you will still have problems.

First thing I would do after marrying it would be to double check the firmware version shown under the "other" submenu. Newest version is 11.3.7
If that's not what you have, you will also need to figure out what you're doing wrong there too.

Despite your initial post, it really sounds like you have not even glanced at the instructions.
Except mine did not come with instructions, it came with a card to zautomotive.com/install. I had to print them off, then when I got to page 4. I plugged the two wire bundles into the tazer; then I put vehicle into RUN not ACC, did not start vehicle; then I put the vehicle into AUDIO mode with steering controls; then I hit the left arrow and the cancel buttons...NOTHING. I have a video I will post later because it shows the steps I am taking and someone who knows better will be able to hopefully view it and correct me. Thank you all again.

Unplug the tazer from the Jeep, hook it up to your computer and open the Zauto Utility tool, select update, in the upgrade menu you should see your tazer information listed above in the top left menu, it will tell you if its married and what firmware version, if there is noting there select recovery mode from the bottom left and factory restore the tazer, then upgrade to the newest firmware 11.3.7. Once that is all done it should show your information in the top left. Disconnect from your computer and going hook it back up in the Jeep and try again.
