Zero issues besides self-inflicted ones (front end steering, trail pinstripes, etc). 100% reliable vehicle i'd drive cross country tomorrow

I think at 60K miles, if there was a latent problem to be had, it would have happened by now.

There is a thread around here of a member that did oversize load interstate escort vehicle service and used his 2020 Gladiator. He racked over 120K miles real quick before retiring and AFAIK, it gave him little to no issue.

And as I remember he idled his Gladiator for days at a time, needed the heat in the freezing temps while he slept in the jeep while the semi's parked for sleep.

The VVT cam issue is not just a gladiator issue. It is common to the engine across all fiat products. There are tons of YouTube posts for them. They are literally the #1 engine issue for Pentastars.

Fiat, has no plans to fix this issue. They have given up and plan to replace the engine to a straight 6. Why would they suddenly spend to fix the design at the end of the product lifecycle.

you can continue to stick your head in the dirt and claim “not me”, but that won’t change the fact that if you own the truck long enough they will fail!

unfortunately I would be interested in this new hurricane engine but I owned a 2018 Ford F150 2.7 ecoboost with 43K miles and had been in the shop multiple times and the final straw for me was at that mileage the driver turbo was on its way out and out of warranty… always wanted a Gladiator and bought my 2020 Sport S.
absolutely love my Jeep, the rocker arms are the biggest problem I’ve seen with the pentastar and left unresolved can effect the cams but there easy to change and more of a preventative maintenance fix… again absolutely LOVE my Jeep!!

what are common issues with a JT with about 60,000 Miles on it. Looking at buying a used one, I know the owner, and trust them, mostly highway miles. But what are common issues I could expect?
I'm at 120k miles on a 2020 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon with about 20% of the miles off road and about 50% of the miles towing a 4,000 lb trailer including on- and off-road. No issues other than a broken radiator at about the 110k mark - but it's something that can happen to any vehicle. Just regular maintenance. No crazy mods other than 35" BFG KO2 (with new AEV wheels to accommodate them) and the usual roof rack, bed rack, DECKED.

It is a known, common issue. That doesn't mean it affects every one of them. There are Pentastars with well over 200k on them on original cams.

I find it bizarre how quite a few of these engines have rocker / cam failure, while others never do. While extended OCI's are never good, sometimes engines with 3,000 mile oil change intervals fail and others than are run out 6k or more between changes run smoothly forever. I'm guessing how the engine is used is a determining factor. I've wondered if its a positive thing for this engine to run at high RPMs for extended periods, which activates the VVL and increases oil pressure from the normal 32psi up to 80psi. Most will only rarely wind their engine up, but those who tow significant loads will be operating this way on virtually every hill of significance.

My 2022 only has about 5,500 miles on it. A thousand of those are towing a 20 foot long, 102" wide box trailer weighing in between 5-6k lbs. The Jeep has had no issues except a creaking from the sun visor. But it shouldn't with so few miles.

101,790 miles on my 2020 Rubicon at present and still going strong. Replaced batteries, of course, and tires so far. That’s it.

I just rolled 60k, bad auxiliary battery, recently, which is not bad for batteries anyway, but I did have passenger side cam and lifters replaced at 57k. Other than that, it's been great.

I'm at 87,000 miles on my 2020. Very few issues.

I have had to replace my windshield four times. The first crack seemed to be from a temperature difference in the cab and outside. The second was for no discernible reason. The last two were from rocks kicked up by passing trucks on two lane roads. This seems excessive, even by Jeep standards, as I only had to replace one windshield in nearly 200,000 miles with my last three Jeeps (a TJ and two JKUs).

I also had to replace my aux battery somewhere between 50,000-60,000 miles.

No real problems yet 3rd set of tires, the trailer in picture has been behind my JT most time of last 3-4 oil changes. It's needing new tires if that's any indication of anything, I swapped out spare for now. Dragging over a ton behind it well over 25000 miles with probably 900 lbs of gear in JT. Even when not towing. FYI just the trailer empty sucks 6 mpg off. The 4wheeler is around 850 lbs.
Regular maintenance, oil changes before it hits 0%, I check brake pads for wear at tire rotation. Not to start a war on brand of oils.... I use 0W20 synthetic of the yellow bottle or the silver/gray. No snake oils or additives. I've added maybe a pint of antifreeze in 3 years. Had the steering gearbox replaced under warranty, and few computer flashing.

Bought it in 2019 with 100 on the clock

101,000 now

LOTS of towing miles between my first TT @ 4,000lbs and my current TT @ 6,000lbs

some minor stuff that was all covered by warranty.

at 60k it may be a stretch but see about an extended warranty out to 100k, if nothing else it’s piece of mind

Other known issues with the 3.6 Pentastar:

If you can get a look at the valley below the intake plenum, look for oil leaking here. The oil filter and cooler housings are plastic and a common problem with age on the Pentastar engines is leaking oil from the oil filter housing.
Just got this problem in Moab this week. It's fine until you put the JT on an angle. My oil level never changed and the temps stayed in normal ranges so it was zero problem driving it 8 hours home.

I will change it out with an aluminum part
