Stopped by local jeep dealer. Largest in SC according to them. Said they were allocated 9 gladiators this month. What does that mean? Is that how many they will receive? Is this how many they can sell, sold orders? Guy said even if i gave him a million dollars, he couldn't order a jeep for me. Is there a limit to how many sold orders a dealer can submit in a month?

Your dealer is full of it that he cannot order you a Gladiator.

Dealerships have financial incentives to move the inventory they have in stock or on the way than customer orders. So some dealers play that came they cannot order to try and put you into what the dealership has ordered.

Any dealership can place an order at any time right now. They were probably speaking of inventory orders, but who knows. I'd find a different dealer.
Plus 1 on finding another dealer.... Send Travis an email at Tri City.... he's in NC and not far from you.... we all know what deal he is providing... hemay take a few days to respond as he is pretty busy filling orders from all of us!

Ive been taking to him for a while now. Was just digging a little yesterday to see if I could get some intel. Looking at colors one last time before I "hopefully" order tomorrow.

I only know form a Chev perspective:

Allocation is based upon past years sales. Sold 10, get 10, but the dealer down the road sold a 100 so he gets a 100 plus priority in getting them to his lot. He gets on day 1 you get on day 2.

This, as stated above, is inventory.

Most of my experience has come from ordering Corvettes, here you really learn about allocations especially if you lean to the exotic configurations like Z06, Grand Sport, ZR1 special models. These are tightly controlled. The 1978 Indy Pace car was a Corvette, first time, EACH dealer in the US was allocated 1 if they chose, some dealers sold theirs to other dealers for full MSRP.

Now ANY dealer can accept a bonafide individual order. If your dealer is a good one, they will accept it and qualify it with telling you they have no allocation for (Corvettes), but they will contact Zone and request an allocation based upon a legit order. I have NEVER experienced a turndown. One dealer I bought a Corvette at, 1978, had not sold a Corvette since 1957! In this case, the guy picked up the fone, called Joe the Zone Mgr and said: "I got a customer who wants a '78 Corvette, can I get an allocation of the order? Yes, he has put down a $500 deposit, he has great credit, is a Capt in the Army. Thanks, drop in and see me some time."

As for Jeeps maybe it's a whole nother story, I doubt it! My guess is same today as it was then and its a standard procedure followed by all automakers, it has to be managed somehow.

Report the salesman to the General sales Manager in an email. Any dealer anywhere can order you exactly what you want. Also never ever give more than a $500 deposit.

RIGHT!

Only 3 times have I been asked for a deposit and 2 times the check was never cashed. The 3rd time they cashed the check and the Jeep never showed up, but I got my money back.

Over the years I have seen some 'stuff': The GM at one dealer wanted $2000 in $20's before he would order a new Z06 at $5k MSRP...he wanted cash money [aka "train riding dollars", if anyone on here knows what that means, if we meet I will buy you a steak dinner]
