Sooo what am I missing? You download the app, buy a license, and then buy an OBDii cable that bluetooths to your phone?? sounds like I need a YouTube video

You need a SGW bypass cable (to unlock edit access over OBD2). This is separate from the OBD2 port, and separate from SGW extension cables (which are just dumb wire, no secure gateway bypass. Optional but saves a lot of knuckle skin as stated above). Personally I have extension cables going to a Tazer which itself functions as a SGW bypass, and has to be plugged in during the JScan edits.

OBD2 dongle these days is likely to be a bluetooth module that plugs directly into the OBD2 port and talks to your phone and JScan app. No need for a cable, the port is easy to reach.

i love it. the pain is getting to the wires because its tight. I have seen videos where someone installed an extention so its easier to get to. I only needed it to change tire size. SOmeday i may change axle inerds, everything else is there i just never felt the need to mess with it. IT is a pretty broad scope of uses. I am glad i went with it. I even got to return the $250 name brand tuner. i think all i i spent $80 app was free and $10 for the VIN register. adapter and bluetooth was like $70

If one isn't planning any modifications and just wants access to data, am I correct in assuming that the bluetooth adapter that AstroZombie just posted should be set it and forget it? Or do you only plug that in when reading data and then unplug?

Unplug when done because OBDII is always hot. No need for more battery drain.

Correct, you don't need any SGW bypass to just read from OBD2. Only to change things like tire size, and - this is the the reason I have both Jscan and Tazer - cycle the ABS pump during brake bleeding.

Tazer can't do the ABS bleed? Because JSCAN sure can....

Correct, Tazer cannot. I got the Tazer first but if I was doing it over again, I’d skip it. Pretty glitchy

I believe you’re supposed to plug the bypass cable back in when finished with your changes. Most people buy extension cables so they don’t have to constantly tear their hands up getting them out from under the dash.
If you take your Jeep in for service at a dealer, you have to reconnect the SGW otherwise their "service" dongle won't work.

changes stick once done and the OBDII bluetooth dongle unplugs.. I also take the bypass out. The bluetooth dongle can be used without bypass with JSCAN too to read codes. You need bypass to clear them. I haven't really messed with it too much just changed my tire size to correct the speedo.

Waiting for my OBD ll scanner to get here today to change the tire size with JScan.

Hope I can get to those plugs without a hassle.
