Not bad, considering it is for a Rubicon. Still higher than other states

$430 for a $46k msrp Sport S ($30k tax value)
$630 for a $60k msrp (assumed) Rubicon

Taxes are 45% higher and the Rubicon is about 30% higher

Or am I looking at the comparison the wrong way

I find it shocking that annual registration fees is based on vehicle msrp. Here we base it on weight class and therefore presumed damage to the roadway. Cars and light trucks are taxed at the same rate

I think you are right with your comparison and it's actually $673 not $630 I just doubled checked.

Likely the RATE went up. It's like property taxes - home values can stay stagnant, but taxes go up.
Check into the archives for your state - all laws, tax changes, etc. are public record.

Makes me glad I live in Ohio. There’s no annual vehicle tax and tags for non com trucks are no longer a thing. Registration is the same as cars. About $60 per year.
God bless the USA.

I think it's 6 1/4% initially for sales tax. Registration is $80-100 annually for all cars in Texas. Gas is about $2.14/gallon. Living in Texas - priceless.

SC here.

Bought my JTO in September and paid $300 in sales tax.

Received a property tax bill which was due 2 weeks ago at an additional $1350.

Don’t expect it to go down by much over $150/year for the next 8. Do the math and it sucks.

In March 2020, I paid $250 for taxes on my then 8 year old (2012) Subaru Outback Limited.

Gas is $2.20/gallon.

In North Carolina we pay 3% sales tax at the time of purchase, followed by annual inspection and registration based on the estimated value of the vehicle. Just got my bill in the mail and they’re estimating my JTR at $44,230 so $381.04 in county and city taxes, plus the inspection which is maybe $30. Luckily, this number goes down every year. Looking to move to SC where they pay a flat $300 at the time of sale with no inspections.
You still pay annual property taxes on your vehicles. It is 6% of the assessed value times your millage rate based on your county/city. This is on top of your registration. For a brand new $50,000 car, you are looking at around $1,300 or so a year. South Carolina's tax man gets his hands in everything.

I saved over $600 after moving from Colorado to Tennessee on this year's first renewal. CO took almost a grand out of me when I bought the Rubicon new, screw that.
