Has anyone gotten it to work properly - TESTED it, after enabling?
Some of the Wrangler people say that they enable it via JSCAN or AlfaOBD or whatever and it allows the hood to be opened, then triggers the horn when you close the hood.

I totally agree with your thinking - but so far I've not seen where someone tested it, just enabled it.
I enabled it with the Tazer, and have unintentionally tested it multiple times (popping hood to check fluids before a trip). Each time it worked as should. I ASSume that as far as that feature goes, shouldn't matter if it's done with the Tazer, Jscan, or AlphaOBD or any other programmer.

Yes, I have. It works when hood plunger is fully released.

Nah. Toronto is a hot bed for auto theft.
From the article:
“Terrence Daferuru, 23, of no fixed address, and Sofia Zuniga, 21, of Laval, Quebec, are facing a combined 10 charges.”

I’d be interested in the outcome. Slap on the wrist, out stealing cars next weekend? Is Toronto soft on crime? Is that a rhetorical question?

does ecri need to be left plugged in to work? Or is it set and remove the module ?
Set & remove.
Also has the benefit of no "un-marrying" required before taking in to the dealer for warranty work, unlike the Tazer.

odd their site doesn’t show a direct compatibility for a jt, just wrangler. Does the wrangler module fit/work ?

It makes changes just like Jscan or alfaobd would and saves the change to the jeep module. Make change and remove if you wish.

In the link I posted earlier, the second application box below the JK Wrangler shows the 2018-current Wrangler & Gladiator which includes the security gateway bypass device you use with the ECRI unit while making your setting changes.

Welp… I think I’ll have to test it today. ?

I also just enabled via JSCAN and called it good. Either way, if they try this method, they’ll at least alert the neighborhood to some degree.

Although I don’t think I’ve ever cared to check when I hear a car alarm, usually just assume it’s a false one or someone’s problem.
If a neighbor can’t see headlights flashing they have no idea where it is and ignore it or worse, it irritates them and they only look forward to it stopping. A horn based alarm just isn’t much help unless you are there to look because you have an equipped vehicle.

Yeah, it’s me too, I don’t get up to look
either.

I have hood lock and a Pedal Jack. Ring Cam on the carport that will alarm my phone even with my “Do Not Disturb” on. But that requires internet/Wi-Fi to be operating.
I guess the real answer is drive an old beater…

Let me make sure I understand.
Everything is already there for a hood alarm.
It is simply a matter of programming?
Same as the horn disconnect for locking.
Except we cannot do it ourselves
without an aftermarket programmer/tuner/coder?
How much would a dealer want to activate it?

Tazer, JSCAN with bypass cable and bluetooth OBD adapter, AlfaOBD with bypass and adapter, ECRI or dealer.
Nice thing is that each of the above does a host of other stuff, too.
I've done a whole lot of troubleshooting with both JSCAN and AldaOBD because I can watch for misfires, get details on almost anything going on with the engine, transmissions, lights and more and even use JSCAN to watch the steering wheel angle while adjusting the drag link to center the steering wheel, and can use it to up my idle speed when winching or plowing snow.

Why Jeep still doesn't enable the alarm with the hood opening when armed by default, is still beyond me. It's a single setting.
I toggled that w a obd device and jscan. it works because i forgot to unlock and went to check oil level and was getting blasted for a min while fumbling for the key fob

If you're going to steal a Jeep, why a hybrid? I wouldn't even buy one! Don't get me started on EV Jeeps... :CWL:
