Looked a bit did not find much info so here is the how to. In case you did not know :)

you will need two star bits,t30 and t45 and a flat head screwdriver

open tailgate.
on pass side of tailgate there is a metal cover above the hinge. remove that. t30 bit
grab that flathead, pop open the plastic cover and disconnect the two connectors.
press down on the black clip and slide it out. Same for the white one.
grab the star bit(t45) and take off the support wires (at the tailgate, not on the body of the bed) note the metal clip on it. you need to remember this when you put it back together. one side of the clip slides into the tailgate.
lift tailgate and watch the right side for the tailgate to line up with the opening and lift it out.
the drivers side pulls out, may need some wiggling. Its a square piece inside the circle.
"assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
easy peasy lemon squeezie.

hope this helped ya !

I like my tailgate ,I'm keeping it on there. Stuff falls out of pick up truck beds without one.

or if you want to install anything on it while not attached to the truck etc... no need to keep it off, was more talking about any reason you might need to remove it.
