I'm looking at running a set of KC Flex Era 3 on my A Pilar. They have an amber backlight. Running power/ground from my Aux switches for the main light is simple enough. Same with finding an Acc On power for the backlight. Is there a way to wire these so the backlight would turn off when I hit the Aux switches to turn on the main light? And ideally put the backlight back on when I turn the main light off? Provided I have the power from the running lights telling the backlights to be on? I would think some sort of relay but that's beyond my technical knowledge at this point.

Or should I bag it all and ijust run without the amber backlight?

If the backlight and the main light have separate wires you could use a relay to break the backlight circuit when power is fed to the main light.

That’s what I was thinking too. Any idea what kind of relay I need?

^^^^ Exactly what he said. A 5-pin relay will have a deactivation circuit when energized.

Just a standard 5 pin 12v relay. You can either use female ends and connect directly to the relay, or get a pigtail.

It's been a while but I believe you would run the backlight power off 87A, normally closed, and when the relay is fed the trigger from the AUX switch being pressed it moves the power source inside the relay from 87A to 87, cutting the power supply to the backlight.

One possible way would be...
30 - Fused 12V source for power
87A - backlight wire
87 - main light wire
85 - ground
86 - 12V input from Aux switch

Any of your Aux switch wires will be fused from factory.

So I've changed my plans a bit after talking with KC. They said it's not ideal but the lights won't blow up if you accidentally have the backlight and beams on at the same time. So I'm going to wire the Flex3 Spot to my Aux 2 and the backlight to my Aux 3 where I will have my KC Cyclone Rock lights. KC said the backlight won't be visible when the main beam is on but it won't over power the unit light BD warns about on their lights.

Aux 1 - KC Slimlight (Front Bumper)
Aux 2 - KC Flex 3 Spot (A Pilar)
Aux 3 - Flex Backlight and 10 KC Cyclone Rock Lights, 2 in engine bay and 8 under the truck
Aux 4 - Compressor trigger switch

Most of the better lights are internally protected, so when main power is on back light switches off.
Even if back light were still powered, you wouldn't be able to see it because of the main light much higher power.

F-52 fuse is the perfect place to install an add-a-circuit fuse tap, it is switched by the ignition.
