I have a 25 jtrx that I just picked up and like the title says I get a howling sound when I let off the gas at speeds above 70. Touch the gas and it goes away, drop below 70 goes away. Any ideas on what I’m hearing?

Sounds like a bearing or gearing issue.

Kinda what I was thinking also. It’s weird all you have to do is rest your foot on the gas and it’s gone, drop below 70mph and it’s gone. 🤷🏻

What’s your RPM’s before the howling and after the howling? What gear is the tranny in? How loud is it? Does it happen when the engine is cold or warmed up?

Could be a gazillion things….. or even normal.

Regardless…sounds like a dealership visit. 😊

Haven’t paid attention to the rpms to be honest. I’ve heard it in 7th and 8th gear as long as it’s above 70mph. Once it drops below 70mph it’s gone, or at least I don’t hear it. It’s really not that loud. I only heard it because there was a break in the music and now I can’t unhear it. lol! Not sure about cold or warm because by the time I get to anywhere I can do 70mph it’s already warmed up.

So this weekend I was standing next to the gladiator after I started it and when it idled down I could hear that noise and it sounded like it was coming from the exhaust. Any ideas?

It’s weird because like I said I heard it a few times just sitting there idling after cold start, so having said that I wouldn’t think it could be a gearing or bearing problem since nothing is really turning. I can hear it slightly at around 35 or so. Could it be exhaust related?

No clue. Trying to figure out a harmonics/sound issue through text conversation on the internet vs. being in person is an extra layer of difficulty.

High probability that it is rear axle/pinion/driveshaft related. The sound changes as you're modulating the torque on the drivetrain.

Well how do you explain hearing it when sitting still at an idle at start up? Nothing back there should be turning. 🤷🏻
