This morning I was just making a quick run to Home Depot and got T-boned by a Mustang that ran through a stop sign.

It’s a new intersection that recently opened up to cross traffic where it used to dead end for the direction the Mustang was traveling. For some reason they decided to make only their road stop both directions and the road I was traveling doesn’t stop at all.

I was traveling about 55mph in a 55mph zone. The Mustang blew through their stop sign assuming it was a 4 way stop for some reason he said(still doesn’t make sense why he didn’t stop) and I took a direct hit in the front driver side wheel. Cosmetically it doesn’t look too bad. The wheel and tire are damaged as is the fender, end of the front bumper and the Go Rhino side steps. Looking closer though the axle appears to have been pushed to the passenger side and the front wheel is obviously cambered out a lot. No idea on what the damage is until I get it to the repair shop tomorrow morning. The hit and my head hit the b-pillar on impact, but no airbags deployed.

His Mustang looks totaled though and his airbags did deploy. I was able to drive it home roughly a mile or so, but it pulls to the right and the steering wheel is about 90* off driving straight.

Surprisingly little damage for that kind of a hit
Yeah I was honestly expecting when I got out for it to just be a mangled mess based on the impact, but I guess the Mustang was so low to the ground and hit the axle directly it minimized the cosmetic damage. I guess I'm lucky it wasn't a full size truck.

Nothing close up, just that first shot I posted when he was still sitting in the middle of the intersection. Since he ran the stop sign and hit me I didn't really care about his damage in all honesty and I was dealing with the cops for most of it. He didn't know whether he had insurance or not so I was more concerned about that until his dad showed up and he had the info I needed.

Looks like it didn't do too bad either despite the air bags. Modern car safety is awesome. I've been looking at some XJs and often run into totaled ones that look crushed like a soda can.

Good to see you came out of the accident safe! Hopefully your Jeep repairs are as minor as it appears. With this kind of hit there may be more damage than meets the eye. Be sure to take it to a good shop.

At the moment that’s my biggest fear since I took a direct shot to the axle basically. The inside of the tire has some rub damage from the upper spring mount as well as some damage to the inner wheel where it hit the steering linkage just to give some idea how much the impact moved the tire/wheel.

Yes - like bowed track bar, tie rod, drag link, other similar damage including distorted axle tube.
When my F250 got hit like that it bent the steering knuckle a bit and wasn't noticed until toe out on turns was checked and I found tight curves left the front tires squealing.

Glad you’re safe and it looks like the gladiator took the hit pretty good. I’m betting you’ll need a whole new front end from axle, tie rods, drag link, steering components, and the body shop will fix the fender.

I'd be more concerned with the damage you can't see... the frame is undoubtably bent, front axle and control arms probably bent, torque boxes and body mounts are most likely tweaked...

Glad you are ok, and hopefully their insurance takes good care of you!

Glad you're ok. Your truck looks alot better than I imagined, even though alot of the damage is more than aesthetic.

This for sure.
physics once again. Bodies at rest and so on, and hydraulic body mounts. Those body mounts are something else (break one of the bolts and find out!)
