I will have to agreed here. I been living here in the SF Bay Area since early 90s and it's out of control now. My car/truck had been broken into twice.
Don't we all goes to works is to pay for bills and properties? If it's ok the thieves to take stuffs than why are we still locking our house doors.
One of the reasons I moved away from there. I worked down on 3rd St. next to the West Oakland BART station, saw cars get broken into all the time. They'd steal the batteries mostly, mark the car, then wait for it to show up the next day with a brand new battery.

But there is occasionally a silver lining. I lived the dream.

As anyone can attest to, the one thing EVERYONE says when someone breaks into their car is, "I just wish I had caught them." I did. Back in 2002 my Taco got broken into just outside where I worked. I heard it, walked outside, and saw some guy pushing a grocery cart past me with a cigar box I kept in my front seat. I went back inside, grabbed an aluminum bat, and stopped the guy at the corner. He denied it of course, then he grabbed a cane from his cart and actually took a swing at me. I can't explain the sensation other than time slowing down, but I watched this thing come at me and I just simply rotated my hand, grabbed it, yanked it from him, and threw it under a car in one motion. Then it was MY turn. I hit him several times in the legs, and he tried scurrying away. He ran around another car and picked up a chunk of concrete there. Just as he got ready to throw it at me, square shot to the top of his head and it was lights out for him. Dropped like a sack of potatoes. Police said, "The guy brought a cane to a bat fight and it didn't end well for him." He was taken to the hospital where the cop later told me he put up a fight there too. So, they held him down and "the doc stitched him up like a football."

But the absolute best part was going to the jail where he had the right to question his accuser, me. A cop escorted me to a room where the idiot was sitting in a wheelchair (you're welcome) and a district attorney was documenting and controlling everything. The guy starts staring me down trying to be intimidating, he was rather large and I'm definitely not. But the DA goes through the instructions and tells everyone that it is recorded audio only without video and he turns it on. I immediately said, "If you think that you can intimidate me by trying to stare me down, you forget that I'm the one who put you in that wheelchair." The DA bites his lip and I hear the cop behind me laughing to himself. It went downhill from there for that piece of shit and he did a year for parole violation. The cops told me afterwards that if I ever needed anything to call them. Hope that I'm still a good story for them after all this time.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, OP. One thing I hate most of all are thieves. I think a hand is fair trade like the others here. Or at least a good start. Repeat offenders will end up looking like a McNugget.

Sorry some scum bag took you lights. I'm off to watch youtube videos of crooks getting shot now to make myself feel better. I love watching blights on society eat lead and bleed out.

i dont see the problem with this. All weā€™re talking about is property. What would you rather? Have someone incarcerated just because they took some object? Given how many kids dont have parents on account of incarceration already as it is? How can someone take care of family members if they are in jail?

its just stuff.....and we need to be more people focused and less property focused as a society

I am, of course, kidding. But this is the kind of BS you hear from criminal apologists.....
I work in the system. Trust me. I don't think I've ever heard anyone have any true sympathy. But I have heard the victim role when they got caught. I've heard a lot laugh and joke about their victims though. It's hard to have sympathy. But everyone else without this kind of experience can't really relate.

I'm not talking bad about CA. The system is very broken at this moment though. As a humanitarian, I would like to protect those that are trying to live at peace in their neighborhood.

WTF is wrong with people? Makes me want to not mod my Jeep in certain aspects. Ughhh. So sorry
I have kind of held off and given second thought to whether to put exterior lights on my JT. I go on numerous multiday kayaking trips where I have to leave my truck and as well just around my home. I live in a nice area but I can't put it in the garage and the thieves come from outside the area and target the nice stuff around here. Have camera's etc but it really doesn't do much good they smash and grab so fast.

Iā€™m confused, did @KurtP have this comment at the end of his post and then mods deleted?

I donā€™t see it, and itā€™s confusing after that... unless he had a change of heart

Take their hand....send them the medical bill for the amputation.

China bills the family for the bullet when they execute someone....they get some thing wright over there.

Iā€™m confused by this statement with China. No, they donā€™t get things right over there. The government murders people and bills the family for a bullet they murdered their family member with.

China is a brutal communist country. They murder people without jury, without trial.

During the COVID pandemic they pulled people, still alive, out of their homes. They threw them in the back of trucks like cord wood. Their families would never see them again.

China IS an enemy of the USA and our Allies. We need to understand that. They are a very big threat to this country and to our own families.

I am not saying all Chinese people are bad, I am saying the. Chinese government is very bad.

your point isnt lost on me, and i dont think our criminal justice system is terribly great; but id rather have 100 thieves go free than a single innocent man go to jail....due process is a tremendously beautiful thing we should cherish. but we do need a bit more justice.

I realized that the McMaster security bolts I ordered were factory size. Most aftermarket mounts come with their own size. Gotta cancel my order, purchase a new mount/lights, take measurements and reorder security bolts. This time for sure I will not take my Jeep to my 2nd job unless I have to.

My neighbors Baja Design s2 sports were snipped off at night. The thieves had the exact wrench to take the nuts off the bracket. I was going to add some to the rear of my rack as chase lights. He suggested maybe I make a tap weld where the bolt and nut meet so that it could not be removed in any way unless you filed it down. That might be a good idea too for future plans.

@immaechu makes me angry that they did that to your neighbors as well. We work hard to have nice things. I know how he feelsā€¦ itā€™s crushing.

I also found out today that they also snipped off my coworkers aux lights on his xj last week.

BTW, I noticed that they also tried taking my Rigid floods since the screw was loose, but couldnā€™t remove it. To remove it, you need access to one of the bottoms bolts, and that bottom bolt is only accessible if you remove my Zeon winch which has security locks.

What do you guys think of putting some sort of filler in the t40 boltā€¦ to remove it, youā€™ll need some heat or small drill.

my post was not a praise of china per se. I said they get SOME things right.....Just like everyone gets some things right. I simply used china as an example in this ONE aspect because it so sharply contrast with our increasingly lax criminal justice system. I obviously dont think we should become china.....Its like using hyperbole.

So, please settle down. Dont use my post to make some soapbox argument about china

Oh, ok thanks for explaining. I can agree about our justice system, and certainly understand why we are where we are at the moment... especially in some American cities.

Hyperbole šŸ¤” ok I apologize. I miss understood.

I agree with you. The biggest threat is that our current president is in bed with china.
