I picked up the new JLR this weekend with the 3.6 etorque because it was the only way I could get it. First let me say I didn't want the etorque and wasn't happy that is the only way I could find the JLR.
I was very pleasantly surprised!
It is smoother, quieter and feels quicker than either my JT or the wife's JL without etorque.
The hill decent seemed more positive.
The start stop... I press that button everytime I get in one of the jeeps. With the etorque engine I don't feel like I have to. It is almost seamless.
I was really impressed! Now I just hope the extra complexity of the system holds up over time
Your mileage may vary!

Does your stop start on The JT seem obvious when it turns on and off

Yes and no. It bugs me but if I'm not thinking about it it is not bad.I've gotten to the point where I don't press the brake hard enough to trigger it or I just hit the button. That said I do notice it when it restarts of I forget. I didn't realize that the delay was noticable until driving the etorque. With the etorque it is MUCH faster and smoother restarts. It is hardly noticable.
I've only had the JLR for 3 days and only taken it out on the trail once but it was noticable. I first noticed how much smoother the hill decent was and then paid more attention to the start stop and was impressed

How is this a general gladiator topic?
Interesting question...I looked over in the ordering section and it didn't really fit there although I have been questioning this engine when putting together a 22 JT order in the ordering guide.
I looked in the 3.6 engine section and it really didn't fit there with any of the discussion topic and maintenance topics for the 3.6.
So general gladiator section it is. As I figure maybe others are struggling and would like some feed back on this engine choice.
Or I could say why do you care? If you don't like the topic don't read and comment on it.
Just like I didn't comment on the thread below about colors.
Just move on unless you feel the need to stir stuff up but then again that is what happens on the internet!

I asked because the Gladiator doesn’t come with the etorque engine. I thoroughly enjoyed your little meltdown though. ??

I drove a 4 pot etorque for a week in Sedona and it was maddening. Kid kept asking if someone with a leaf blower was following us. I think it was mostly the e torque engine he was hearing, nothing from the turbo, real bummer to drive. Would specifically avoid the JLR if it's mandated and V6 had the same constant low whine. Could have been the turbo, but I have owned at least 1 turbo 4 at all times since 2004 and none have sounded like that.

What's the 3.6 etorque? I thought the PHEV Wrangler came with the 2.0L I4 ?

The electric wrangler does come with the 4 cylinder. The 3.6L on the ram and Wrangler have the option of the 3.6L with the etorque system. It’s a 48V system that replaces the alternator with a belt driven generator. Helps with start/stop, fuel economy and adds some torque for get up and go. It’s a shame the gladiator doesn’t have it.

That is freaking hilarious!
I've had my head is so many build sheets and dealers websites looking for vehicles I totally f'd that up. ? That's what I get for looking for more than one vehicle at a time.
Dude that wasn't a meltdown that was my tequila fueled thought process. It was really good tequila however.

Well, you should remember not everyone is out to be a dick. Glad you enjoyed your tequila.

I'm not offended that you brought this up.

On many light hybrids like this, the generator/motor is also the starter.

Is this the case with the e-torque. The normal starter goes away?

If so, then it explains the fast, smooth starts.

I haven't found one that I enjoy as much as a good Anejo Tequila. Please feel free to make a recommendation.
