Installation and Review: Rugged Ridge Locking Hood Catch

Somebody should send a set to the Lock Picking Lawyer to see just how good that tubular lock is. My guess, not very.

I'm not too worried. I don't think the Mission Impossible team, or a Libyan hit squad is going to be picking my hood locks to plant the 2 kilos of semtex under my hood hooked to a mercury motion switch. More likely some crackhead is going to jam a big screwdriver in the latch and just bust it off. For me just;
A. Discouragement to keep the less motivated people from under my hood.
B. Secondary latch for when cruising in excess of 120 mph
C. MOST IMPORTANT - one more accessory added to meet the MMAR (Mandatory Minimum Accessory Requirements) of the Gladiator Community

As always YMMV (some of you might have active Libyan hit squads after you)

Ordered, received and now sitting in a pile with the rest of the accessories to be installed. Only two things remaining to be received: 1 - my Mojave and 2- the Fox 2.0 ATS steering stabilizer.

Certainly not needed, but I added round pieces of electrical tape over the lock keyways. So to the un-informed, they look like push-buttons, not locks, but more so to keep any dust/dirt/grime out of the keyway. Win-win.

Here is a photo of the cover I added over each lock. Besides a smooth look, and keeping dust out (Looking at you, Hammertown), perhaps the jerk walking by in the parking lot will not get the bright idea to stick his gum in the lock?

Easy to cut with a 9/16th leather or gasket punch. If you want some and don't have a good way to cut a clean 9/16th disk, drop me a PM and I'll send you some for free.

Thanks for sharing. Will be looking into ordering one soon. The main thing will be to make sure the locks cylinders are well lubed at all times coz if they seize or rust then it will be a problem.

I would hope they wouldn't rust. I haven't seen locks made of steel in a while.
In fact, I can't recall seeing an automotive lock rust. Brass and stainless in most cases.
These should be no different than locks in the doors.

Good point. I would look for some covers like my motorcycle top case has to keep the elements out including dust.
