I’ve owned 2022 maxtow since new . Changed transmission fluid @ 47k and it’s currently @ 56k .. I recently noticed a whine shifting from 1st to second. I’ve never noticed it when the transmission is cold I also seldom hear it throughout the day … there is one predictable spot that’s nearly 100% . I’ve got a stop light at the top of a long hill that I often get stopped at. Turning left from there when the temp is 180ish the transmission will whine ( like a supercharger) shifting from 1st - 2nd . Fluid level seams fine via standard protocol.. seams to be shifting good as well but I’m a bit skewed cause it’s hooked to a 3k lb trailer 5 days a week… it’s always shifted a bit different when not hooked up . Ive watched a few videos with the same whine but worse… often continuing through 2nd gear.. those vids seamed to be right after a fluid change and fixed via correcting fluid level…. I appreciate your thoughts !

Mine does the same thing and has done since I bought it used with 30k miles. Changed fluid at 50k, even overfilling by lifting the back up as high as I could. Mine starts like yours, at about 180-190 degrees, first to second. Its more noticeable with the doors off as well. Runs and shifts like normal no matter the slight whine and it only lasts a couple of seconds if that.

Thank you ! The whole transmission level vs truck level is such a pain. I feel like they made the level checking procedure so ridiculous it would give them a way out at times.

The whine thing is puzzling. All 5 of my transmissions whined.
I had 4 transmissions with my 21 JTR and still have it in the factory one with my 23 JTR.

The 21:
Factory transmission whined at highway speeds at 24k kms and analysis showed wear metals were catastrophic and oil contaminated with glycol.
2nd transmission whined at 1 & 2 and was deemed to have pump failure. Was replaced.
3rd transmission whined at 1 & 2 and deemed to have pump failure and was replaced.
4th transmission had 4th gear whine and FCA said it’s normal.
Truck was written off in moose hit.

2023 JTR:
Whine in 2nd and 4th gears. I’m told these two gears share the same shaft. Oil analysis looks amazing.

What my research has uncovered is that a whine is either
1. abnormal wear is forming or
2. tight tolerances or
3. oil level isn’t quite right.

So, all 5 whined…. I think they all whine. If people can’t hear it, they are tone deaf to it. I’ve talked with my service department about tone deaf techs and YES it’s a thing and you only have to be human to experience tone deafness.

You mentioned the oil level check and truck level and transmission level being a painful hassle. I highly doubt that when the tech is doing the oil level check that they have the back end of the truck 2 feet higher than the front so I’ve always just levelled the frame, what drains out with a pan drop is what goes back in and if you’re wanting more oil in there, then finish the oil level check at the cool side of the temp window.

Thank you, sounds like you have definitely had your share of experiences with it. I’m leaning towards the side of normal. Mostly since it’s so intermittent ….. was the whine pretty consistent on the ones you replaced ?

Quite consistent. I would know the exact throttle pressure to create it and if that pressure was less, I wouldn’t hear it. Long inclines caused 4th gear whine to sound louder. If I was on a flat and leaned heavier in 3rd then lighter in 4th, I wouldn’t hear it.

1st and 2nd…. couldn’t get out of that one, cold or hot didn’t matter much. The fourth transmission was amazing even with the whine in 4th gear. I did however notice that for each pan drop I did (4), temps declined and the whine became barely noticeable after the 4th pan drop.
