Hey all! So much great info here - gotta love the days of forums! I have a '06' TJ G.E. which has been the best most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. Also have a '97 OBS 7.3L that is very well built but due to an aging body starting to be too much for me to climb into and repair. So, about to pull the trigger on a new Gladiator, and sell the OBS.

Went to drive a Gladiator today to confirm my wanting to place an order. It was good! Just like my TJ but more refined and longer. And I LOVE the fact that a short guy like me can reach over the bedrail and touch the bottom of the bed!! The smaller feel of the Jeep is more desired over a large full size the older I get. Although it had more road noise than I was hoping for. But that can be fixed. So, had a few questions I hope to get answered that nobody at the dealer could answer.

I am considering the Altitude (NOT High Altitude, just the basic Altitude) because it seems to offer the most flexible options along with the MAX tow package and 4.10 gearing, and still keeps cloth seats. Not that heavy towing is a necessity, but it has a higher sticker rating (6,250 GVW as compared to standard 5,800).

  • Can someone with a Altitude and MAX tow package tell me what their sticker shows? The Max Tow option says GVW of 6,250.
  • Jeep specs say max towing is 4,000, but they advertise up to 7,650. Anyone know what options allow for a 7,000 towing capacity?
  • Anyone know what the Altitude with Max Tow option specifically is rated to tow?
  • The Altitude (with max tow package) says Heavy Duty WIDE D44 axles. I am assuming these are the same that would be on the Rubicon? Standard track width is 62.9. Rubicon is 64.4. I am thinking that the Altitude with max tow would be at the same track width as Rubicon?
  • Just confirming that none of the Gladiators offer heated side view mirrors...
  • Any experiences with the Active Safety option?
  • Any experiences with the Adaptive Cruise Control option?
  • Also, are all the Gladiator models 'trail rated'? In terms of sealed components for water/mud, or does the Rubicon have additional protections that the other models would not?

I haven't considered the Rubicon mostly because I dont intend to do crazy off road anymore and probably will get Icon suspension and lockers later on if desired.

Lookin forward to hearing from ya'll and seeing other builds and out there. :jk:

If it has 4.10s and max tow you should be able to do 7000, I have a sport s with 3.75 and tow package and I can do 6000

Just confirming that none of the Gladiators offer heated side view mirrors...
No. Heated mirrors are part of the "cold weather package" that can be found on any model.

The Altitude (with max tow package) says Heavy Duty WIDE D44 axles. I am assuming these are the same that would be on the Rubicon? Standard track width is 62.9. Rubicon is 64.4. I am thinking that the Altitude with max tow would be at the same track width as Rubicon?
Yes.
Also, are all the Gladiator models 'trail rated'? In terms of sealed components for water/mud, or does the Rubicon have additional protections that the other models would not?
All trail rated.

Did you see the Altitude with Max Tow on the lot? Or just on the online builder?

I was unable to order Altitude +Max Tow. Dealer said it wouldn't allow them to add it to Altitudes, even though the online builder showed it was possible. This was in January and a few other folks were hearing the same thing.

Maybe it's changed?

  • Any experiences with the Adaptive Cruise Control option?
I know some folks don't like it, but I drive a lot of interstate and I'm already in love with it. Won't go without it in the future.

It was only online. Folks at the dealer really had no clue about any of the options or details. I suppose I will have to find out. The Sport S of the same list of features is 2K more according to the online builder I believe. A little strange.

Yep, I was pretty bummed. If you plan on optioning the Sport S out quite a bit, the Altitude saves some cash. Plus the black grille was growing on me. But it was Max Tow or Altitude and ultimately MT was more important to me.

If my dealer had no clue on the options, the first thing I would do is to find a NEW dealer.

Well I hope thats not the case.... The MT is important to me as well, for the occasional hauling of house remodeling stuff. I appreciate the heads up and will look into it. So that also makes me wonder if there are some options that Jeep allows you to select that are not actually allowed to be optioned along with the max tow option due to added weight of accessories.

If my dealer had no clue on the options, the first thing I would do is to find a NEW dealer.
Sadly thats my experience with all places. Next closest Jeep dealer is 100 miles away. I previously had considered the Ranger. And went to 2 dealers and 4 different people. None of them understood what trims offered what, nor what the specific options actually did or how they operated. And they all resorted to the 'build' websites to see what options were available when questioned. Not to bash but when I was a tech for Ford back in the day we constantly had upset customers because they bought something different than what they thought it had because their sales rep didn't now nor cared to find out what options were with various vehicles. Seems to be a consistent theme. So I rely on research and forums ;-)

Gorilla glass. I have read some mixed reviews. It's $125 so not a huge added cost it seems. A bigger question maybe is how available is it when it cracks/breaks. However, can Gorilla glass be repaired as easily as regular glass by your standard rock chip place??

Well you were right. I appreciate the heads up. I questioned the dealer about this and once they got into their 'build' screens they realized the website is wrong and the max tow is in fact not offered on the Latitude. Kinda weird considering the Sport S and Latitude are basically the same thing. Would you be so kind as to share a pic of your door sticker? I'm curious to see what your tow rating and cargo capacity is with the options you selected (sounds like you opted for most of the options?).

Could someone with a Rubicon please share their door sticker as well? I'm curious to see what it shows since there's none in stock I can look at.

Also, after going over the build document (https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/...219285/?hash=4484f7f0a19a96c258dd7efe44318215) posted elsewhere I have some further questions hoping someone could maybe confirm for me.

When going through the options there are several that say "Unavailable with some configurations" but doesn't specify details. However, with the Sport S I noticed that a couple of those options with the 'unavailable' next to it disappear when that option is selected. Making me think that option is not available.. So, the options that dissapear are below. Could someone with the Sport S let me know if they do or do not have these options please?

  • Adaptive cruise control with stop
  • remote start (example in pictures below)
  • heated mirrors (according to the options list link above)
  • Was also told by the dealer the trail rail system was not available even though it can be selected. Is it easy to install later? Is the bed drilled and tapped accordingly?
  • LED tail lights listed under the 'safety' group, not the LED lighting group

Also, does anyone have the heritage tan interior that they would be willing to share a picture of?

So, this begs the question, aside from heavier rate springs, and a proper sticker rating (in case of accident so insurance doesn't deny a claim), what actually IS the difference between the Sport S with Max Tow, and the Latitude without the Max Tow. To me it seems there is no difference other than the sticker on the door. Unless there's some sort of physical difference in the frame itself?

At times, options have been unavailable that later have been available. Either there are supply issues, or your dealer doesn't know what's going on. There are also threads on each of these topics where members heartily debate the benefit of factory install.
With the LED, people have gone about adding their own package for less, but then others like the look of the factory LED package. The trail rail can be added later but you won't get the outlet in the back unless you want to wire one yourself.
Back in May of 2020 all of these options were available.
