What you are seeing is pretty consistent with new car purchase - significant depreciation in the first 2 years and it typically levels off after that.

this is why LEASING makes sense- you will always know in advance what it cost to get out of your vehicle and can use that to your advantage.
Maybe for some folks. I’ve never come across a scenario over my past 20 years of new vehicle purchases where it would have made more sense for me to go with a lease. Mileage limitations, condition penalties, etc.

That and when I bought this, I had every intention of hanging onto it for 5+ years, so a lease just wasn’t something that I considered.

Put down a deposit, pay extra each month, and keep your vehicle for 3+ years and you won’t lose your shirt when you decide to unload it.

After visiting my son and grandson last week, I'm putting all of my money into skateboards and cordless electric leaf blowers. I see a real future here!

I'm wondering about taking this same concept and applying it to a boat. Imagine, a boat that could go over shallow water, even grassy swamp land. I'll be rich!

A good friend of mine is a Mercedes tech in the Germantown area/DC. He's high enough up the chain that he gets a #@$@ of a deal on a Mercedes lease every so often. A couple of times he's driven his Mercedes to the AMC races at Cordova - and run the car down the track.
He'd take his time slips and hide them in various places around in the car saying he wished he could see the look in the next person who had the car when they found the time slips.

Not as much fun as the clown that stripped that car, got rid of the parts and wasn't able to return it to stock for return. What the heck was he thinking? Just of the now, obviously. He also never read the lease contracts, I'm sure.
Lets just say that the guy got BBQ'ed, flamed and nuked on the forum when he posted about the lease. It was an EPIC thread. :CWL:

You won't be rich. Someone else stole your idea years ago.

I have 24k miles on my 2020 Overland and last month was the first month I saw it having a lower value than when I bought it. Bought for $51k, got as high as $54k two years later. Just sank to $47k last month. Great truck, I definitely think it’s worth the money. $4k for +2 years and 24k miles on a new model isn’t bad at all. I do think the recent prices are too high. So, unfortunately I think 2021/22 was a poor time to buy and you might be seeing that in the used car market now.

Been buying vehicles for many years but I have never had a vehicle loose so much value in a short amount of time. Was thinking...about going back to a RAM however, most dealers are only offering me 44k for my 2021 Rubicon which is loaded. MSRP of 63k May of 2021, I paid 56k. 12k in 16 months? It's very consistent through the dealers, KBB instant cash, CarMax, Auto Nation and Edmunds etc.
I bought the Gladiator thinking it would hold it's value but at this point, seems I was seriously mistaken. Is this the same in your area?
FYI: You do realize that the vast majority of vehicles are NOT an investment. Most vehicles are in fact a depreciating asset.

99% of all vehicle purchases are terrible investments and the Gladiator is 1 of the 99%.

Most vehicles don't hold their value. The past few years have been a bit strange due to chip shortages and other supply chain issues, so it seems like some cars were holding or even increasing in value. But that's the exception, not the norm.

Not long ago I had my 2020 Rubicon in for service. My salesman said I could get just about what I paid 2 years ago for it. It only has 9,000 miles on it, it will last longer than me.

I guess investment was a wrong choice of words
Strange thing is KBB trade in value is 52k yet KBB instant offer is 44k. In the past the dealerships would get close to KBB trade in value but now, they use the instant cash which is basically wholesale. Needless to say, I won't be trading anytime soon.

Yeah, I wanted to post that also awhile back also. Wanted to see how many do not read a thread all the way through without posting and it seems to be quite a lot.

What? You mean people just jump in at the end without reading a thread?

Good monetary investment? No.
Good fun investment? One of the best I’ve ever made.
